My 3 miniature shetlands are stabled on a deep litter shavings bed. They share 1 roomy stable and it works fine EXCEPT for mucking out! My lovely shavings fork only collects the poo from the biggest of the 3 ponies! Rest drops straight through the tines and back into the bed. Any ideas? Rubber gloves and hand picking is back breaking with 3 of them in the stable and the only fork I can find that SAYS it works for small poos is a) plastic which doesn't last 5 mins in my experience b) expensive and c) not specifically for miniature shetlands so debatable if it would actually work. Anyone got something that really does work, either bought or cobbled together at home? Many thanks.

Could you fix chicken wire or fine mesh over the tines? Don't ask me how you would do it mind, I'm not practical like that :)

In reality, I'd probably end up doing the stable on my knees with marigolds and a trug...

My minis don't do poo balls that small. I have more problems with the bigger horses when poos are soft and break up into small pieces! lol

garden centre for a riddle and pick up the big bits riddle the rest. To be honest this is why I dont like shavings beds I hate them to look dirty and thyealmost always do unless you change the bed daily

I have a black plastic fork which I only got cos its the cheapest, cost 12 quid and is brill for mini poo..... Mums colt came home and broke it tho when he jumped over a full size door to get at a mare and got mad and stamped on the fork, but my 15hh chunk has stodon them before and not broken them, and I've not broken any by stabbing rude horses in the bum to move over ....

I do not like the special shaving's forks, so use a nice light plastic shovel and push droppings onto the shovel with a small hand held shovel that was formerly in our coal bucket! It works on both shavings beds, clearing up poo on the yard and the field.

OH did buy me a rake type thing for paddock picking, but I prefer my little coal shovel!

My two mini girls share a stable, they are on rubber matting with just a thin shavings bed say 2 " thick. It's enough to be comfy, deep enough to soak up wee and easy enough to find the rabbit dropping poo's by rubber gloves and skip, I muck out the droppings every day, skip out in the late evening and take wee out once or twice a week.

Speed skip! I Semi deep litter on flax and anal about getting every last bit of poo. Little hand rake flicks into scoop without taking out half of the bed! Easy peasy.

Thanks everyone. I currently use a poop scooper with a B&Q child's rake and a deft flick through the shavings. But I still waste far too many shavings. Was hoping there might be a shavings fork on the market by now. I've googled the pellet master by Fynalite and have ordered one off e-bay for only £22. If it doesn't work I'm going to sue H&H Forum lol. Seriously, will post to let people know if it actually does the biz x
