Sorry I know it's done to death and I have done a search but I must be using the wrong words.

I need some lightweight (50 or 100g) fill for my 2 Arabs. But they play fight a lot and the younger one puts little teeth rips in all the older one's rugs, which convert to long rips if he gets a good hold.

I'm looking for someone really tough denier rugs that will stand up to this treatment. At this point I'm thinking I'd be better off spending a lot of money on a decent rug if it will last, rather than having to keep buying cheaper rugs.

Any ideas?
 
I have a youngster that likes playing with the older horse who is rugged and the only way I could stop rips was to buy the horseware rugs that were 1650D or 2250D rugs! I use the supreme Rambo’s as anything with a shoulder gusset gets pulled off! His expensive Optimo was ripped to shreds! 😣🤣. I hope the youngster gets bored of these games as he gets older!
 
Having spent £200 on a 1200D turnout rug, only for my oldie to rip it from wither to bum as the horse wearing it walked by, less than 48 hours in, I can say that probably no rug on earth is really teeth proof.
 
Le mieux kudos 1600D are the only ones that have lasted more than a week with my two.. in fact they are now on the second year and remain unscathed.. better value than the cheap rugs which for me proved false economy.
 
Thank you all for the suggestions. I'd never even heard of ballistic denier rugs. I've ordered two Horseware ones from Hope Valley as their prices seemed significantly cheaper, which made the eye watering price seem slightly less eye watering. I just hope they stand up to the teeth!

I've always fancied a rug liner system - the thought of having just four turnout rugs (2 for spare) and a load of easy to pack away liners of different weights is so much more appealing than dragging all my variety of dirty and dusty rugs out of the storage boxes, trying to remember whose is whose, work out the weights, wonder why I only have one in the weight I want (probably because I had to bin the other due to the tooth holes) and then gather them all up off the tack room floor and try to fit them back in the storage.

I could be so organised!

Shires Plus liner rugs have always stood up well for me - mine plays pretty hard & fast still.

For the worst offenders, I chuck a cheapo rug over the top so they tear that first.
 
Spray the rugs with NAF no bite - they can still play but will stop grabbing each other. I had two 4yo who were the same and no bite stopped them. You will probably need two bottles to start.
 
Look for a 1680 ballistic denier horse rug. Various brands do them. I have always used one specific brand (hitting 20 years of loyalty with them now). Whilst not saying which I can say that I've had horses that are rug rippers, the rugs that are 1680 denier are the only ones that stand a chance with them. Look for the cheapest provider of this minimum level of rug denier.
