Dentist came to the yard today. Had booked Barry in because he was a bit overdue. Now we've had Barry for 3 yrs and this was the 3rd time he'd had his teeth done - so wasn't expecting anything more than a quick float. Was surprised when Ivan said they were sharp and HORRIFIED when he got me to feel them

nearly took the end of my fingers off!!!! Ivan did them the first time (and Barry was a total tw*t) - 2nd time it was someone else as he had moved yards but he was much more sensible. This time he was an idiot again (sedation next time!). Have never seen Ivan rattled but he was furious that the last person had apparently not done a proper job to make life easy for themselves. Worry is, that same person has now done the other two as well so need to get them redone asap

It is bad isn't it. We pay professionals and they dupe us. I had a dentist not mention that my horse had lost a tooth so the top one had grown down into the gap and was about an inch too long. Poor horse had no movement at all in her jaw

Luckily I had a different dentist next time.

Its amazing what they put with without showing any signs. I look after a horse whose owner is very old fashioned and really not into teeth, backs etc

I insisted on having Trixie seen by the EDT - it was only £35 FGS! and I doubt very much if she has ever been done before - but I was horrified to see that not only were her teeth extremely sharp along the edges but she had ulcers all along her cheeks - poor pony must have been in so much discomfort but never once showed any signs of being so.

While we're on the topic can anyone reccomend a good equine dentist in the North East/North Yorkshire way?? My boy needs doing but needs someone understanding as the last 2 couldn't get near him!

So Ivan is working again now? How is his knee does anyone know?
And I don't think I could trust anyone other than Ivan to do my horses teeth, he always does a great job.

This happened to us too. We had the same lady for 2 years and she gave them a quick rasp and said he had lovely teeth... Then we had another guy as he was highly reccomended and he couldn't believe tote had ever had them done and was furious! He said they were really bad and had to spend ages on them. I don't think I've ever felt so guilty

for a dentist i would only recomend martin brookes....

on another point i was out for a day with the dentist who first started ivan off in dentistry the other day,its a small world for sure...and a funny one.....
the best thing an owner can do is learn more about what should be done teeth wise and how the jaw ect works then you are less likely to be filled full of sh** by dentists as you will have a better idea of what or what not they should be doing.....
