Ok, I think I've gone slightly insane and decided to take coblet to a children's meet! However I have never been hunting, nor has Gypsy, so it's a first for both of us!

So tell me what you know about them... where you go, what happens, what you do and everything please :)

Thanks :D

Children's meets are great!

You should defiantly try it. There will always be a non jumping option and breaks to let the lead reiners catch up.

Dress smart- pony club type dress- tweed if you have it but not essential - the whole point is for the younger generation to go and enjoy it.

Pony- clean, as yours is a cob you won't 'need' to plait but may want to put a running plait in to keep your hands clear- I've not had a native so not clear on all of that. :o

It will essentially be a Fun ride that you go in a pack with hounds- you'll both have a great time!

The thing you have to be careful about is that you can get a vast number of people out, most of whom don't know what they're doing. I honestly prefer a quiet day for introducing a new horse to hunting :)

Hmmmm - as a regular hunter (twice a week throughout the season), the childrens meet is the one I dread the most.

People are often under the misconception that these meets are quiet and child friendly, but can sometimes be the opposite. Bear in mind a lot of the horses/ponies are not fit, let alone regularily hunted, with their riders having little control or hunting knowledge, so can be a recipe for disaster....

Have your wits about you and if you visit the hunting forum, there is a 'sticky' on hunting for newbies/hunting terms, which will give you some ideas on turnout and what to expect.

Hope I haven't put you off!!

ps. are you hunting with the Tanatside?

Sound a bit like me then

This ^^

Ours is always absolute chaos!

I took my novice TB to one 2 weeks ago, lots of children and teenagers unable to stop, and in the end one came off her pony and was taken away in the air ambulance. Apparently, this is the norm for childrens meets around here!
I'm lucky that my horse doesn't mind ponies bombing past him, and it looks good on his CV. "Survived the childrens meet"!!
PLEASE don't let this post put you off, you'll be fine!!
