Tell me about ear plugs

I'm thinking of trying some ear poms/plugs on my silly horse. Yet another dressage meltdown today because a horse was neighing in the distance. Thinking of trying these but not sure how to put them in. How far into the ear do they go? Should I get the ones with a string? Do they pop out? What is the difference between ear poms and ear plugs? I don't think acoustic ears would work as he has tiny ears and a tendency to rub his bridle on his legs so bridle might come off? Any experiences from those who have tried them please.
 
I've used them with great success.
The fluffy ear plugs are easier to get out and I think they muffle the noise.
The poms are brilliant but i find due to material tend to pull the hair when taking out I also find the block more of the noise though
 
Use Poms and not had any issues. Stay in well. Haven’t tried fluffy ones. I don’t think you can use them affiliated dressage but might be wrong. Poms can be washed so that’s useful.
 
No…you are not allowed any form of ear plugs/poms in affiliated dressage.

Yes, I have used acoustic ears successfully. I got around the bridle fit/ slipping issue by attaching small Velcro tabs each side and looping them through the browband loops and/or throat lash…depending on individual fit. . So the ears sit on top of the bridle…worked fine, and easily removable for tack checks.

As far as feels comfortable. So quite well down without forcing it. I use them for evening showing performances but have used Harry Hall protech masta acoustic ears for BD. They have Velcro which goes just under the brow band.

Used them on show ponies in the past and worked well the fluffy sheep ones are quite nice but the plugs work just as well, if you think your horse may not like them get the string ones.

My friend uses the titanium hood with ears for affiliated stuff they are not cheap but thinks hers are marginally better with it on.

Louis had a melt down when I put the plugs in his ears it took 2 of us and a lick it to get them out so be aware.

Thanks. Good tip. If anyone is going to have a meltdown, it's going to be him!
 
Acoustic ears were a game changer for my sensitive horse, especially indoors, where he hates the sound of something outside that he can't see. I do a lot of RC which doesn't allow anything inside the ears but my horse hates this anyway. I've never had the bridle come off or anything close but my horse has massive ears!
 
I've bought the acoustic ears that go under a bridle in the end as they are dressage legal and that's when we need them. Thanks for all the advice and input, everyone.

He takes a cob-sized bridle with pony-sized ears. I'm planning to restitch the ears smaller. I don't think the ear plugs would work with him - he'd probably to go beserck!
