Me and the Murphster will be doing a handy pony class on Monday - but I've never done one before so don't really know what's involved...I'm just doing it because it sounds fun!!

I think I'll probably be the only adult in the class...

What sort of things will we have to do in the class? any tips?!

could include:

get on and off. (poss from wrong side- worth practising)
bend in and out of cones,
gate
little bridge
hanging washing on a line or a gate on a post.
cope with a range of flappy scary things.

err can' think am sure there are other things that crop up!

A few more for you.
Walking over a plastic sheet on the floor - easy to practice, cut a feed bag in half, flatten out and place under 2 poles.
Carry or pull a sack between 2 markers, practice with old feed bag with a long string loop attached.
Enter a marked area and then stop and reverse out. practice stopping between 2 poles and reverse out as straight as possible.
sometimes a small cross pole to jump or trotting poles.
Hope these help and good luck.
Pics needed on monday

Fortunately pony is very laid back about everything so hopefully nothing will bother him on the day.

Unfortunately I don't think there will be photos

as there's no one to come with me who could take pics, and the show's usual photographer is...errm...me! And I want to compete at this one so can't do photos!

I remember doing it on my first pone, when I was about 12. We had to approach the judge, who was sitting at a picnic table with a big patio umbrella, pick up a tea pot and pour a cup of "tea" (it was water) for the judge who held out a cup and saucer for us. My little one was great at this sort of thing so walked up perfectly happily and stood while I picked up the tea pot. At this point the tannoy screeched into life with a high pitched whine. He didn't do much bless him, just jumped a bit but it was enough for me to pour the whole contents into the judge's lap!

A slip rail might be another one, get off horse, lower one side of a barrier (normally a jump) lead horse over, put barrier back up and get back on.

Aww the memories!! I loved handy pony as a kid!

I only ever got to do it at my RS, where clearly they were evil, had to do lots of the stuff above but i swear we had to get off and do the running through tyres thing that they do in the army!

Ahh to be a kid again (or at least a pretend one!

We've got relatives over from Oz so got to be seen to be making an effort!

Def meet up soon, you need to come play with Tilly, she's massive now!

As for the only adult thing...........just squash your hat down on your head, nobody will ever know............

Me and Toto have done a few classes, there was a bridge to walk over, tarpaulin to walk over, trotting poles (but they were planks instead), a tennis ball to throw into a tin, there were 3 upright barrels and you had to move objects from the first to the second etc. and you had to get back on on the wrong side
