Tell me about the horse you ended up with, that was nothing like

Went looking for:
14.2-15.2hh
newforest, Highland, dales ect.
bright bay
4-9 year old
gelding
Good to hack and schooling progressing.
A confidence giver really.

Bought home:
16.2 hh
chestnut
thoroughbred
gelding
8 years old
sarcoid on belly
Straight from the track.

Turns out he's the best money ive ever spent! Hacks like a dream, nothing and I mean nothing bothers him. Alone, in company. Walk trot canter and gallop. Stops as soon as he's asked. Never bucked, reared or even looked miserable. Best horse ive ever ridden.

I wanted a mare, anything between 14.2 and 15.3hh (no bigger), compact, around 6 years old that had been out an about a few times, still with a lot to learn but nothing too green. Some kind of Arab or Warmblood type, absolutely no Thoroughbreds. Preferably something calm on the ground and predictable that my non-horsey mother could handle.
What I bought was a 16hh and still growing (she's now 16.2 with maybe an inch left in her), only just 4 years old, Thoroughbred mare straight out of racing, only been sat on for retraining a few times, long in her back and with an unpredictable attitude problem, one day she's an absulote dope on a rope and the next she's striking out and rearing! I can't say my poor mum was too impressed when she kicked her. Still, 6 months later and we wouldn't change her for the world, couldn't imagine life without her!

Wanted
Gelding
Min 15hh
Any colour but grey
Established/been there done that got the tee shirt type

Stood in the stable
Mare
14.2hh
Grey
Green but improving rapidly!

I'll let you know how it works out (she's not going anywhere!)

I know I shouldn`t laugh but you have all had me in absolute stitches ... it`s true isn`t it, there is no point in trying to look with a set idea in mind, as you`ll get the one you`re meant to have lolol ..... Just out of curiosity, did ANYONE actually get what they set out to get????

When we went looking for daughter's first pony, I had in mind 14-142 gelding, New Forest or Welsh native, probably bay (not grey), green but could do something with pony clubbing - and that's what we got! Super temperament, turn a hoof at anything and loves jumping.

Now sadly a bit outgrown we hadn't really started looking too much (just browsing the adverts), I had in mind native cross good do-er (to fit with the 2 geldings we have on restricted grazing), can live out about 15.2-16h not grey, probably 6-10 years old, potential to do pony club, dressage or jump.
Got told about a 'nice gelding 16h bit green but might do a good dressage, all legs and quite elegant looking' Turned out to be a WB mare passported at 16.1 but has grown to almost 17h (eek) doesn't really do living out (all stables we have are too small really) due to the fact they're digging up for a housing estate opposite and thus churns up the grass too much - needs far more grazing than we've got so have had to put on livery, green, but does do dressage! Oh and it's a mare, and the NF positively hates her (another reason we can't keep her at home).

The other one we have is as a companion perfect safe first pony and exactly as described.

So 2/3 were what we were looking for!

I originally went looking for a bit of a been there done it type. Preferably 16.2hh or over and either a CB or CB X. If I couldn't find one of those I wanted a native type coloured cob, or something I wouldn't have to plait.

I bought a 15.2 ( 15hh at the time) green spanish warmblood who if i'd have ever seen his advert I would never have gone near. I went to see him after we drove 3hrs to see another horse 17.2hh warmblood X CB only to arrive and be told you can't see her it's raining. We called in to see my boy on the way home thanks to a text from a friend.
He didn't know how to canter, had confidence issues hacking, didn't know what to do when he saw a pole.
I love him to bits and I can't imagine life without him. He's the best horse I could've wished for.
