Tell me about your connemaras!!! (And other natives!!)

ETA I do agree that fitting saddles can be tricky, but there are saddles that fit their wide flat backs - Barnsby, Thorowgood, Hastilow, Kent & Masters are good starting points!

I have mine in a Barrie Swain dressage saddle and have an Ideal AST (the junior saddle!) jumping saddle. I didn't get on with Thorowgood for him, and did have a Jeffries for a while but the position and length of tree points don't suit him.

Ooh such lovely posts (and great info re: saddles). They seem like such a versatile breed. I've made a note of the stallions so will have a little google!!!

FWIW, I have no idea about my horse's breeding, the passport is all "unknown". I think he is full or mostly Connemara, he isn't the most stunning horse to look at but he's such an absolute superstar. So I don't think it really has to matter about the breeding as long as the horse has the attitude. I had a really well bred Section D that was vile! I also had a well bred ISH by a great jumping sire that hated jumping, was generally pretty useless and was always broken! So I've stopped paying attention to that. When I tried him, mine gave me such a lovely feel into and over a jump, and had such a nice attitude, that I didn't care about much else.

I do agree that breeding isn't the be all and end all, but some of the connie stallions seem to consistently throw very desirable foals (& hence they are used prolifically), and the Irish Connemara Pony studbook is very easy to search online.
