are you in a 'clique'
is there a 'pecking order' to your yard?

Our yard is ace, we rent the whole place and there's just us!

The worst clique we've ever come across at yards is the YO's Coffee Club Clique. Reserved for those who do naff all with their horses as they're too busy being in the YO's Coffee Club, who never abide to yard rules as they think they are above them but snitch on anyone else when they can. And most certainly would never deign to take their turn keeping communal areas clean, it's so beneath them...

We've made lots of lifelong friends at yards over the years having said all that. But even thinking about this brought back horrible memories of one particular yard as described above!

What about you Pipper? What's your yard like then?

I'm very happy with my yard.
The best thing about it is, it's mine!!!
The worst thing is not having any help when you're feeling sh*t, and it's 24/7, 365 days of the year!!!

The "clique" is me, daughter, son and OH (and family I suppose, when I decide!!!!

The pecking order is Big horse, my mare, daughter's horse, OH's love of his life (daughter's old pony) and the little monster!! Three JRT's

I used to be really happy at my yard, but recently have been having issues so I am moving to somewhere where I will be all by myself, I'm really excited!!

We have a clique, all older woman who dont do anything but hack (which is fine) and gossip, they dictate to YO who comes to the yard (they have told him not to let some people join the yard and he has turned people down on this basis!), they make everyone else shift round fields when they dont want their horse to be out with someone elses etc, or because they just fancy a change, and they moan about everyone thats not really in their clique, and their horses too! Me included now! They are the kind of woman that gather in a huddle and talk quietly whilst all staring at you whilst you go about whatever you are doing....as you can tell, I am really really really looking forward to leaving!!!

Saying that I used to get on with them, but took exception to a few things that were said about me/my horses that filtered back to me and when I confronted them they didn't like it, so now seem to go out of their way to be rude (I always say hello and goodbye to them regardless of the fact they ignore me when I do) and childish.

I've only been on yard a couple of weeks and there are 6 owners in total (including me). Funnily enough, I have paired up, for want of a better word, with the girl who wasn't previously in a pair. On the whole, it seems like nobody really chats with each other. There is no unpleasentness, just not particularly chummy.

The yard I moved off again wasn't really cliquey but there were a fair few oddballs on there ..... and there were only 6 owners again there. It seemed to be more of a social club than a stables though. I was on there for 8 months and in that time I saw the other horses being ridden 14 times, that's not each, that's all of them. I appreciate people are down at different times but believe me, you wouldn't call these women dedicated horse people.
Bizarre thing is, they don't ride but come show season, they enter at county level. It goes without saying that they didn't get placed!!

i LOVE MY YARD
grin.gif

There are around 30 horses and around 35 people that come to the yard
smile.gif
Everyone apart from a few people are really nice and friendly and will do anything to help you. There isnt really "cliques" on my yard, everyone speaks to anyone.

Are you happy with your yard?
Extremely happy. Best thing I ever did was move there. I have had so much support of them through thick and thin.

what is the best thing
The community. We are a community we all support each other and we all help each other.. and we are all there with a shoulder to offer

what is the worst thing?
The big hill to the mares field.. cause for some reason Cato has decided she needs to be shaparoned to the gate and makes me walk to fetch her!

are you in a 'clique'
There are no clique.. no them and us.. no she said this.. she said that.

is there a 'pecking order' to your yard?
Pecking order.. that implies people stamping authority. The YO has juristiction over us while we are on her land, but not in a 'pecking order' frame of mind. Shes very supportive and very fair.. Other than that the only Pecking order is in the field.;

i love my yard.

best thing- the lovely grazing and absolutely amazing hacking.

worst thing- no school but there are 3 arenas i can hack to in 10 minutes.

no cliques as there are only 4 of us including the YO and i don't see the other 2 liveries very often at all but when i do it is very pleasant.

Im happy with the yard im on, there is only 4 families there, i say families but its one couple and then mothers and daughters and we all get on well.

OMG alsxxx
I actually thought you were talking about my yard until I read you were in Kent.

What is with the evil, dried up, miserable old women cliques!!

I am on the recieving end of EXACTLY the same behaviour, except my evil grannys have been gossiping to the point rumours are now going around the yard about me!!!

Its making me sooo miserable at the moment, Im sure if will blow other and they will find someone else to pick on soon, well fingers crossed anyway

Lol...at least I am not the only one!! Well I know I am not, as I hear what they say about other people at our yard!!!

The ironic thing is....they are old enough to know better, I'm 25, so they must be twice my age, yet are the most childish!!

Soon the only clique will be me and my OH, and the neds!!
grin.gif

haha, only thing our yard has clique wise is that everyone likes a drink or seven. There's the happy hackers (half a bottle of wine before hacking on a sunday), the show jumpers (half a bottle before going in the ring and another half after), the hangovers (pretty much everyone at the weekends) and finally the staff (half a bottle after work after dealing with the pissed up happy hackers). lol. We actually all get on pretty well and have a good social atmosphere considering there's about 50 liveries.

I love our yard. There are only 7 of us, its friendly, clean and tidy and our YO is there if you want her and wont bother you if you dont. The hacking is great, we can park our trailers there, the horses are all happy and there is 24/7 turnout.

We were on a yard which has now gone bankrupt. It as bitchey, cliquey, the horses were never turned out, they were fed crap, you were not allowed to talk to anyone outside of the yard abuot your horse if there was a problem. You had to use the yard vet and farrier, the owner was a total b***ch who tried to control us with a rod of iron. I put up with it for a while and then gave in my notice and left straight away. I sat in my car with my two horses in the trailer ready to go and had to listen to the YO screaming at me. My husband gave her what for and I arrived at my new yard in tears. Never again ........ As I said they went bankrupt and the yard is up for sale. Couldnt happen to nicer people really .....

Ha ha towerhamlets, your yard sounds like ours. We call it 'Wineoclock' and it can be at any hour of the afternoon or evening. It ususally involves copious quantities of wine or ususally stella by the crate. For us happy hackers is two bottles after a hack, and for the eventers two before they do dressage, two before sj etc. Its great!!!!!

The YO is the worst offender. She is notorious at BE parties!

Are you sure you weren't at my old yard?

Sadly, I left one like that and am now contemplating another move. It was so good when I moved there but it's got worse over the winter and now is very cliquey - those who have talked about the YO's Coffee Club clique for people with nothing better to do, that sounds very familier.
I get on and do my own thing but it's very hard to ignore and not take personally the fact you are never asked to be part of the yard's showjumping team (despite the fact you used to be), being relagated to a small table practically in the kitchen at the Christmas do when the clique have a lovely long table to themselves, that you have been stood next to 6 other people, every one of whom was asked by name if they want a brew but you're ignored, that when they decided to have a fun show this weekend, not being invited to a birthday do for a livery but all the clique are, you weren't informed but the people at the yard next door were and you then turn up to find the school full of people having fun.
Know what I mean?

I love my yard, there are no cliques, well apart from my best friend and I who moved to the yard together, but we're only a clique in that we see each other away from the yard and our OHs are good friends as well! The other is clique is a mother and daughter but we'll forgive them that!

Even though we all do different things with our horses, from retired field ornaments to an intermediate eventer via happy hackers and everything else in between, we're all in the coffee clique and we all go for hacks together. Those of us who compete go in convoy and quite a few of us go away for riding weekend together as well. Those who don't go know they are welcome to and normally only don't come as they have kids or ponies that wouldn't cope with that much riding.

We ride each other's horses if one of ours is lame and somebody else is away and we have a message board so that we are all up to date with stuff. The general inviation to the evening do of my wedding was on the board for everybody (saved postage as well!) There are only 10 liveries before you think I had a huge wedding! We haev a visiting instructor who only has enough time for 4 of us in one go so we take it in turns.

It's a really lovely yard, and after 2 years of being on a rented yard where my friend and I had to do the lot with no help, I love having to just, say "the lightbulb's gone in my stable and having a new one the next day and having somebody else responsible for fencing etc. The YO's very laid back and we only have two rules - no horses loose outside the fields and no feedbuckets in the fields. It works well as everybody is responsible and keeps an eye on everybody else's horses. There's a lot to be said for a well run, friendly yard!

The worst thing is although we have fairly decent hacking, we have to go along some busy roads to get to it. My boy is fine so it doesn't bother me, but it would be much nicer to go straight onto a bridlepath!

1) Yes very happy on the farm
2)That it is so quiet
3)Sorry cant think of anything
4)Not enough people to be in a clique as only 3 of us on there
5)No we all have our own paddocks and space and we all keep ourselves to ourselves

Are you happy with your yard?
Yes, very

what is the best thing?
Being free to do what I want - my horse gets as much or as little grass as I give her, and is out 24/7 unless it's awful weather. I can bring just mine in if I want. Everyone chips in and helps.

what is the worst thing?
It's very quiet with only three of us. My horse is in a field on her own.

are you in a 'clique'?
No

is there a 'pecking order' to your yard?
Sort of - YO is a novice so us two liveries help her out. We make most of the decisions (well I usually let the other lady do it as she is better at organising things!) and do most of the extra organising of maintenance etc such as removing the muckheap, topping fields, down to when to worm the horses.

Shame I've been kicked out isn't it
smirk.gif
(not my fault - YO giving up!)
In three weeks' time I shall be moving in to a very cliquey yard with restrictions and expense and everything I don't want. Good job I get on well with YO and I will enjoy the social side of it (bigger yard)!

4) I don't know
5) I'm there to enjoy my pony because I work hard and pay a lot to keep her, could care less about anything else I'm afraid

after being on my yard now for nearly 3 yrs, i wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the area, it may not have the best facilities but we have good horses, lots of fun and a proper team sprit. In short i love it! previous to this i was on another lovely yard in sussex, made some real friends but sadly left when i moved away. I'm happy to say though that i'm still in touch with the sussex lot. To me the key to a happy yard is a laid back and fun yard owner, and everyone mucking in and helping each other. i like yards that do fun things to raise money to get improvements done (last year we made 2k to buy a complete new set of show jumps) and i am always happy to help muck out a few on weekends etc. as get taken to shows on YO's lorry.

Are you happy with your yard? YES
what is the best thing? the grazing/turnout, brick stables, off road hacking, floodlit school, location, friendly people, hmm most things
smile.gif

what is the worst thing? I'd like a better surface on the yard and school and not to have to spend every summer pulling ragwort and the option
are you in a 'clique' We don't really have a clique any more
wink.gif

is there a 'pecking order' to your yard?
yes

Happy - yes.
No cliques or pecking order.

Being full livery helps as we all have busy lives and don't spend all day hanging about gossiping or conspiring. Basically we all have lives outside our yards, and problem people on other yards don't!
