As you know I lost my little whippet x a month ago now. My OH and I have decided that although we miss having a dog dreadfully it is not the right time to get another. Both of us are now working longer hours and although I live above work it's not always easy for me to get away for a break at lunchtime, often I only have enough time to stuff food down. My OH works from home at the moment so perfect you would think, but again his job has changed, he's much busier and he may have to go office based in the near future.

With a 15yr dog that only wanted in the last three months to potter round outside this wasn't so difficult but I never felt I spent enough quality time with her.

So a few days ago a whippet x came to my attention, 9yrs old, black, lovely nature - just my kind of dog (and OH's) and very like the one we've just lost. Both of us have been very tempted but we've said no, I know in my head it's right but my heart wants her so badly.

God it's so hard, pls tell me it wouldn't be fair on her, I know in my head it wouldn't xx

CAYLA you made me laugh!

I was thinking the same thing. We weren't supposed to agree where we? We were supposed to support her heart and save the dog. Then she can blame us and not her soppy selfless heart!

You know you want to Supertrooper!

Sorry if you didn't want to hear it Supertrooper but I think you should give this girl a chance too. Its more than likely a 9 year old whippet x will just be happy to sleep when you aren't there, and whippet types really don't belong in rescue do they?;)

Agree with everybody else, unless the rescue say she can't cope with being left I bet she'd be blissfully happy snoozing on your sofa while you're downstairs at work. Go get her! :D

Yes I was kind of ignoring you!! Sorry, I really appreciate your advise honestly.

Thought about what to do all night and I'm still not sure but will find out what she's like being left as it'll be 8-2 and then till 6 or 7 at the latest if my OH ends up working away and with my hours, it's a heck of a long time for any dog!! It's hard at the moment cause we're short staffed and as head nurse I pick up all the slack.

Thank you though, the other thing that's giving me doubts is that she's a little too similar looking to the one I've just lost xx

Give yourself time to think about it long and hard and find out as much about her as possible. Does your practice not let you have dogs with you at all, there are always several staff dogs wandering round at our vets. Although I felt you should have her the fact she looks like your old girl would actually make think twice . It is very hard not to make comparisons with a much loved oldie anyway, perhaps the similarity would make it too painful. I wish you luck whatever you decide, please keep us updated.

Thankyou, I've talked to friends and have decided no as has OH. God my heart would have her but it doesn't feel quite right in my head, it just feels a bit too soon and she looks so much like annie.

I've no doubts even though she is black that she'll get a home quick and make someone a lovely pet.

Thankyou all xx
