There is an ad for 2.5 acres with stabling & parking. I will have very soon a 13.2, a 14.2 & a 16 hand.
I'm sure it's too small but I am desperate to be somewhere I can rent the whole place. Just wanted to make sure I'm thinking right.

Depends what the drainage is like, as would need to drain really well or would get really poached and you will need to supplement with hay in the winter.

You would need stables and the ability to split it into fields. You would also need to supplement their grass intake with hard feed and hay throughout the year. But it is definitely doable and some people manage on less than that.

Is the total plot 2.5 acres including the stables and parking, or is it a 2.5 acre paddock? We struggle with two on a two acre paddock because of the clay soil here. You will have to poo pick every day and supplement the grass with hay ( we do this most of the year) but if you divide it up and sacrifice some of it in the winter you might get away with it. It is so nice to have your own space!

We've got 2.5 acres for a 16.2 & a 14.2 & they both live out all year & it's fine. We're on sand so it drains well. You just have to make sure you maximise the grazing by keeping on top of the weeds & poo picking. I feed hard food & hay all year round.

Sooty,

It will be clay here too. Ad is not clear but reads like the field is 2.5 acres.
I will phone in the morning - it's a blokes name on the ad so phoning during the footie might not be a good idea!

How much is he charging per month, I have lots of friends who have what you may be having, and they manage fine, they love being on their own land (so to say) do you get water and elic... will the owner manage the land for you..

Don't forget to check security. If you are going to be on your own, who will keep an eye on them when you're not there (at home or at work). If there are houses nearby perhaps you will be able to leave you tel number with someone and ask them to notify you if they think anything is untoward.

They reckon you need about 1 acre per horse/pony. But with combined stable and grazing you should be ok. if you have good drainage!!! (if thats possible during winter) if you have the use of all the land, sounds good to me!!!
