Ok I know I am probably a bit weird (ok not probably I am a bit weird) but I really fancy a pet dwarf donkey (saw them for the first time today and omg think they could be so great in my new holistic health equestrian centre I am currently building… so before i spend hours down a rabbit hole, tell me why I shouldnt have one… I know lots of miniature animals have health issues and i dont want to perpetuate these problems but they are god darn cute …

happy Christmas all

baileys hot chocolate to all those over 18 and ferrero rocher to spoil you all xx

Ignoring the genetic health issues, I should think keeping the weight off them would be a hell of a job too.

The Donkey Breed Society should have a list of breeders of minature donkeys, not dwarf donkeys.

You will pay more for less, like with smaller shetlands.

I have gone the other way and have 13 hand + donkeys.

You will really need to manage diet to prevent getting overweight and they put it on in places that ponies dont first.

I’m going to assume you meant miniature and not dwarf.

i didn’t mean either i know bugger all about donkeys which is why i asked before i started any research at all… just saw a photo of a teeny tiny donkey and thought ‘ that’s what i want for Christmas’ which is a dangerous thing to say out loud in my house cos hubby often acts on such asides… will enter the rabbit hole of miniatures rather than dwarves

We have two miniature donkeys at our sanctuary and yes they are VERY cute but they are also huge pains in the backside. They get away with murder, but that isn't unusual for equines that size that people don't seem to bother teaching any manners. Rescue a couple if you don't mind a hard life in exchange for them occasionally being very sweet.
