Loved the really lovely positive Stafford comments....mine are all full on people lovers..took all 3 of them to see an old friend last week and they were brilliant with her fragile 3 year old whereas normally they are besides themselves with joy when seeing anyone. All 3 are highly vocal too and the boy has a party trick of sitting on your lap and putting his paws around your neck for a staffy hug...then looking down at the girls to say he has claimed pole position!
Large Munsterlanders are considered a Versatile gundog and are in the HPR (Hunt, point, retrieve) category.
This means they are capable (and expected to) hunt the game, point to game when found, spring the game and then retrieve the game when shot.
They are also extremely proficient deer dogs and will track a wounded deer then alert the hunter when the downed deer is found. They are also supposed to have a prominent chest bone which is said to be to allow them to rest a heavy deadstock (such as foxes) on the bone to aid carrying, and they are capable of lifting loads heavier than you might expect.
They come in two colour varieties - the more common roan type dog who has black patches with heavy spotting and roaning on the white areas, and the less common 'plated' dog which has black patches but only light spotting on the white areas with no roaning.
I also have a springer spaniel and if i have to hear one more person tell me they are called Springers because they are always springing up and down with excitement I will scream. 'Springing' is the act of scaring game out of its hiding place allowing hunters a clear shot.
PucciNPoni, oh he's as greedy as any other Border, he just won't look at his food until the humans have finished their meals. Then he runs (I'm not joking) towards his bowl and inhales the contents.
Thankfully the litre of Ribena didn't do him any harm. Found him the same as yours, happily chewing the bottle, covered head to paw in juice. As soon as he saw me, he trotted over, oblivious the the little purple paw prints he was leaving behind him.....
