Tellington Touch

I'm not trained in it or anything but i've read all her bookes cos i love them, and use the principles - my horse (and cats and other animals) seem to like it and chill out and stuff; i definitely think it would be worth going on courses for it and am saving up to do so!! I'd recommend all her books, even just for her insights into stress patterns and behaviours and so on, it's fascinating and she's a genius!!

Are those your horses in the sig?? Stunning doesn't even come close... v jealous....

I'm not trained or anything, but I have read about it in books and had a few goes at it. When I was grooming my favourite horse at my old RS I would use T-Touch. She was always very nervous and would easily get wound up, so whenever I had free time while grooming I would do it around her withers, working my way up to her neck and then down her face, and back again, and occasionally going along her back and to her dock. It would really chill her out, and whenever I rode her on the first ride after we'd finished grooming she felt much freer, flexible, and chilled out. She also worked better through her back after a while! Hope this helps! xx

Again, like the others - I'm not trained, but have used the techniques on a variety of horses. Used it in a lesson looking at the therapy and got students to carry out it out. The horses all reacted very well, but there's the argument that the any form of massage most horses will enjoy and respond positively, as well as the added social interaction which you're giving. The Tellington T-touch technique seems similar to many other "unique" techniques that people try to promote (usually to sell their book or training course) but most amount to the same thing.
on the human side - it also calmed the "massagers" down as they were delivering the massage and found that they also benefited from giving the massage! again - time spent interacting with horses? I dunno - could be a mix of everything.
Worth having a go but I don't think it's worth spending oooodles and oodles of money on.

Hi I am a Practitioner in Training. I think to give you a better explanation of Ttouch this might help.

This is from the ttouch website http://ttouch.com/whyTTEAM.shtml for anyone interested.

Why TTEAM® for Your Horse?
TTEAM® - the Tellington TTouch method for horses - Improves Behavior, Performance, and Well-being and Enhances the Relationship Between Horse and Rider.
TTEAM offers a training approach that encourages optimal performance and health and presents solutions to common behavioral and physical problems. TTEAM horses demonstrate marked improvement in athletic skills and increased willingness and ability to perform. Not only does the horse benefit, but also a deeper rapport grows between horse and rider because of increased understanding and more effective communication.

There are three phases of TTEAM work:
The Tellington TTouch (TTouch)
Learning Exercises from the Ground
The Joy of Riding

With the TTEAM approach, a series of Ground Exercises enable a horse to override old patterns and to learn without fear or force. Using a variety of obstacles including labyrinth, ground poles and plastic, TTEAM exercises result in self-control, focus, self-confidence, cooperation, balance and coordination. Moreover, eleven unique ways of leading a horse provide opportunities for both horse and rider to increase ability and coordination

The Tellington TTouch helps to relieve tension, fear of contact, soreness or discomfort and transforms nervous, spooky or resistant horses and improve attitude and behavior. With TTouch your horse will enjoy learning and cooperate willingly. TTouch has been used extensively to speed healing and recovery from injury and illness in horses and in all animals, including humans.

The TTouch techniques for first-aid offer animal owners an invaluable tool. Hundreds of case histories about emergencies with colic, illness or injury demonstrate the value of TTEAM work with the ears to keep a horse out of shock or to bring a horse out of shock while waiting for the veterinarian.

The Joy of Riding combines Linda's 30+ years of teaching classical riding and her experience as a Feldenkrais practitioner for humans. TTEAM has developed several unique tools like the Balance Rein, the Neckring and the TTEAM Training rollerbit to encourage the well-being of the horse. Experiencing the joy of riding with awareness increases the comfort, performance and confidence of horse and rider.

TTEAM has been used successfully with:
sore backs
stiffness
stress
nervousness or tension
inconsistent performance
lameness or unevenness of stride
cinchiness
resistance to the vet and farrier
bucking and rearing
clipping, pulling manes, giving shots
head tossing and tail wringing
biting
kicking
pulling back when tied
trailering
resistance to grooming or saddling
stubbornness or laziness

There is a fascinating EEG study on brain wave activity or horses receiving TTouch (including working through the labyrinth) and also people doing TTouch on the horses (including working through the labyrinth) and you can read some of it on the website TTouch.com under research. The short version is that it was found that when horses received TTouch, all four types of brainwaves were activated, which is the optimal state for learning. It was found the same for the humans doing the TTouch.

Hope this is of use. :)
