So the yempeeture has dropped again!!what are you rugging in?
My 3 tbs all have heavyweight turnouts on 360g they come in at night but will be adding light stables underneath!!

Ah well tonight, the heavyweight stable rug is coming out of storage, plus his disney fleece snuggy hood with eye holes :D I'm quite excited tbh :D

Medium weight turnout with neck in day and medium weight stable rug witha combo fleece underneath at night.
Horse has Irish clip out all day and in at night

DF is currently sporting her LW Mark Todd out in the main paddock, but last night was in a 150g Premier Equine. Tonight she will be in a 200 MW Amigo or the 150g rug - havent yet decided :)

Tiny Fuzzy is currently sporting a very Fuzzy-Furry natural coat & resembles a mini rotund yak :D

shy was fully clipped so he lost his double coat a few days ago - so i am having fun - and yes the disney snuggy is ACE - have to take a pic !

This is our 3rd winter, and I am trying to have him naked! First winter, we had only just got him, so I wrapped him up like he was precious china(!), ast year he was clipped so needed rugging, but this year it 'au natrel' for him!!!

Oh god! A heavyweight??! when it's been 15 degrees during the day?? What the hell do they wear when it's -15??!

Mine is in a lightweight out and a fleece in the stable and he'll be staying that way until he gets clipped at the weekend when he'll be in a m/w during the day and a lightweight stable rug at night... god knows what I'll do next as he hasn't got anything thicker than a mediumweight!!...

Whoa, heavyweights already? where are you guys???? My WB is in a lightweight out during day and a waffle at night and is toasty warm and we're in Cornwall. Take it the cold stuff is coming down then :(

Fully clipped ones up to heavy wieght inside rugs for tonight it's freezing here big drop in temperature.
Unclipped TB is in a medium wieght and will stay in it unless cold
Half clipped one will stay in medium wieght if ok but his is a bit of a crappy medium wieght so might need to find something better.

No rug unless it's wet. Out during the day, in at night, which is why I don't want him soaked, no room to move about in a stable. Not clipped, not much coat (normal for him) but sweats a teeny bit when he comes in of an evening. If it does rain he gets a rain sheet with standard neck.

200g medium today and he has been having his light weight stable rug on. Mr D is kept on a yard which is on a hill and so the wind chill is pretty bad. It pretty much feels 3x colder on the yard than where I live 10 mins away!

cobsgalore and benson21 - I am glad you are staying brave as I am trying to do too!

Went to a talk last night and vets / farriers / nutritionists etc all say OFF WITH THE RUGS so I am trying to be strong and let his natural thermostat look after him - & his legs if he wants to warm up!

I will however stick a rainsheet on occasionaly purely to keep him dry so I can ride him.

(disclaimer - I am not saying anyone is right or wrong!!!)

Yup - it is bitterly cold here for the next few days, then it eases off again. We've had sleet this morning...and a very cold wind.

His heaviest rug is still in the storage box though, and in a few days, we'll be back to normal. A good trial run, i do feel !

Even in freezing North Yorkshire, where yes.... it's snowing!! my lad is only in a medium weight, no neck. The rescue ponies have nothing. They all come in at night, but the girls will grow thicker coats if they are cold, and he is toasty warm. Temp must be about 2 degrees.

Its pretty cold here in Bucks - weather map says 10C but with the wind chill it feels more like 5C. I'm sure I saw a flake of sleet too this morning! Probably my imagination though but certainly vest weather!

My mare is hunter clipped and has a medium with a hood during the day and a medium with hood in the stable at night. Not time for heavyweights yet.

Fully clipped coblet was in his 170gm rug last night.

He used to never really need more than a rainsheet but each year he's getting more and more of a wuss (I blame this on his continued association with those pansy ass warmbloods!)

He did have his 100gm on when I brough him in yesterday but was feeling a bit chilly - that said it apparently got down to -3 here last night and we're expecting the same again this evening.

My daughter's mare has got a trace clip and is in l/w turnout as I refuse to put m/w on until she has full clip! I might pop her l/w stable rug on at night though as temp dropping!
My mare is on box rest and is so hairy that she resembles a bear! I will only pop l/ w stable rug on at night later in winter if it drops to minus temps!
I hate over rugging with a passion!

I cringe at the talk of all these heavyweights!!

My WB is naked and will remain so until it gets to practically 0 degrees or below, and even then she will only get a rainsheet on if it's raining and windy.
She will be getting lots and lots of forage though to keep her warm!

It was nearly 19 degrees here the other (up north) and there were cobs out in heavyweights. Disgusting IMO!

:)

It just takes one post to make me feel better...

My lad is getting his h/w with neck stable on tonight and h/w t/o tomorrow

Not sure who is getting 15 degrees during the day but in Aberdeenshire it's been snowing all day and is a white out.

My boy is still naked at the mo but will be fully clipped at the weekend so will go into a med combo. His heavy weight comes out if the temp is -5 or colder.

Mine are both in light weight stable rugs ( only one is clipped -a trace clip)
Tonight I'm going to put full-neck under rugs beneath their other rugs

Am struggling with Lovely Livery who popped her HW inc neck (400g) rug on Giant Fuzzy last night for 7 degrees!
He was so warm when I fed at 6.30 this morning - it was then 8 degrees, feeling like 6 so I texted her to request to put a lighter weight rug on & she declined my very kind offer :(

360 full necks in October?!? Temps arent getting below 5 on a night atm this is beyond ridiculous.

Vets everywhere are advising leaving rugs off or go lighter due to the amount of obese/sweaty/dehydrated horses they keep having to deal with

They are animals not china dolls grrr!

Its snowing a bit here atm, mine are naked *gasps* and have been worked this morning and only have winter grass no hay or hard feed.

Crikey! How cold is it? ;)

The only person that knows, realistically, what rug is suitable for a specific horse is the one that knows the horse, and I would never presume to say otherwise, but I read threads such as this and I wonder just what the heck do you do when it gets really chilly? What is really chilly anyway?:)

Our night time temps are not forecast to drop below 2C for the next 14 days, (that's what it says today anyway, yesterday we were supposed to have sub zero and snow by the end of the month;) )

A few of the geriatrics might have LW's on at night or if it pees down but otherwise, unless horses are looking cold the rugs are staying slung over the stable walls :D I take absolutely no notice of the actual temperature or date anyway, if a horse looks cold/miserable then I'll do something about it.

I only have MW's and a few LW's, I double up if I need to.

Currently it is 14C (at just gone 9am, so will warm up still) and I am watching the grass grow, loving it :D
