tempted but not sure if I can afford it - any solutions?

she is really pretty! Wow, £540 thats alot of money! Are those normal prices?
Hope you find somewhere to rent.

would it make more sense if i said he was at ingliston? :p
yes, its expensive, but their facilities are great and my gelding seems to love it (also, my dad pays for it as it's his horse )

i've always wanted a youngster to bring on and she looks like she's going to make a decent height.

i'd take them all home if i could

She does look lovely! But I'm a sucker for these types - since we got one a couple of years ago that has turned out to be a cracking, honest pony!

Honestly? I have looked at LOTS of yards in the last year for my boy. The cheapest full livery I've found is 90pw, so 360pm. Do you absolutely have to have full livery? Maybe you could take over some more chores and pay less to have both horses. Though you will never find the facillities that Ingliston have!

im thinking about DIY at my current yard but im wondering if i'd be able to cope with the 4am starts (sometimes have to be in work at 6:30am) and also wondering how id feed her on time given my shift rota.

unless i advertise for a helper and let them ride my gelding in return??

allie5 - the reason my boy is on full livery is because he always has been and also because my shift pattern is all over the place. My earliest start is half six and i do night shift as well so unfortunately jerry has to fit in around work until i find a job with fixed hours.
I was thinking about diy for this filly as she's only 2 and not broken so would not have to be exercised and would theoretically only require mucking out, turning out, handling and feeding for the next 18-24 months.

i have found somewhere that does diy for £30/month but its a bit further out than i would have liked - oh well, cant have everything, can we?

I've had horses while working shifts and you can do it but it needs support. Some yards will let you tailor your package. So you pay a flat rate for DIY then pay per job eg £3.50 per turn out etc. If I was on a late I'd go up early and get her fed, out and everything ready for the night. The yard staff would then bring her in and put her to bed. If I was on early the staff would feed and chuck her out. I'd go up after work and muck out etc then settle her in for bed. I would speak to Vicky and the other girls (I had lessons at Ingliston for a while and they are all lovely girls!) about what's available. They might be able to suggest alternatives to full livery. I'm so jealous! I really can't afford livery there! Will be visiting for the Grand Slam Showing on 9th of April. So come and say hi if you see a black youngster with a very stressed looking owner attached!

im doing that show too. well, attempting to - it'll be our first attempt at showing so i'll probably be just as stressed as you (jerry doesn't do plaiting) :p

I think i'll speak to josie when i go up tomorrow and see what she says - for £130/week i get:
-turning out/bringing in
-basic feed (pony nuts, speedibeet, haylage)
-shavings
-mucking out
-weekly tack clean (had it done once, never again)
-daily groom

all i would need for her is shavings and feed so hoping it will be around the £70/week mark, which i could afford on my current salary
