In November a horse i look after full time went for colic surgery. When she returned home i was very worried about her and several of you posted and PM'd me giving me good info and advice. (Thanks to you all)
She had her good and bad days and last weekend i thought..yes we have done it she has won the fight no bad days for about three weeks and she looked so bright and her appetite had returned back to normal.
Well sadly she was down again on wed am with another colic. Only this time she was different, her eyes were vacant, she looked tired and i knew this was going to be diffrent from the others she looked at me in a diffrent way than she had ever done before.
I had the vet who gave her a pain killer and we hoped she would be back to her feet within a few hours. I knew deep in my heart that she wouldnt be up again.

I gave her till six pm that night i was holding out as long as i could with the hope she may just prove me wrong and amaze us again. She was comfortable just looking at her tummy every now and again and lying down. I obviously would not have left her that long if she was in serious pain. The owner came up, and we decided it was time to call the vet again knowing that if we had got to this point it was for one reason only.
So the poor girl has gone she didnt make it. Im glad we gave her the chance with surgery but this one wasnt ment to be.

We didnt have a PM but the vet believes that the join in the intestine had broken down.

So RIP bea you were beautiful. xx

My horse lasted six months after surgery until she started getting colic. Just when we thought she was out of the woods it happened again. I too felt that this was different this time as she looked like she'd had enough. Over the previous two years, she'd had laminitis (don't know why because she was like a hat rack), damaged a tendon, got bitten by a snake and had colic surgery.
I didn't think it was fair to put her through anymore.
That was nearly two years ago and I still miss her.
