Tendon boots or brushing boots ?

I've always used brushing boots to ride in, I do lots of hacking, but I also use them for competition (I do showjumping). But I've began to notice that everyone else competing seems to put those open front tendon boots on their horses...should I be using them? What are the benefits? Also, should they be worn with fetlock boots on the back???

It depends if your horse brushes or not really, if the horse brushes or goes close in front then brushing boots are advisable; if it is just to prevent a tendon getting caught then go with tendon boots. The fetlock boots are just to prevent the horse catching themselves and can be used with either brushing or tendon boots on the front.

Different boots for different jobs

Tendon boots protect the tendons from strike, most tend to be open fronted do the horse feels when they knock a pole.
Brushing boots are for if a horse brushes his legs together and the newer ones on the market seem to be offering more tendon protection.
Just because others are all wearing them, doesn't mean they need, or warrant them - just they might've followed the leader. If your horse is doing okay in the set he has, and has no nicks/strikes etc. then keep as you are
