Was after some nice boots for competition and was wondering how annoying buckles are to do up compared to velcro? How do they compare with studs (as seen on some rather nice Treadstone boots I've got my eye on)
How easy are leather boots to take care of? Also, what makes are you peeps fond of? and which to avoid like the plague? (you can hint if you like!)
Thanks

I have leather tendon boots with buckles - I can get them on and off pretty quick. After riding in a sand school I just brush them off. When wet/muddy I just wipe them over and then every now and again use some leather protector on them. My leather boots have elastic on one side so do have a bit of give. They always look smart and have not got any wear or tear after 3 seasons.

I find the buckle ones fiddly, especially on an excited horse that just squashed you when you try and put boots on!! I use the clarendon for every day, velcro and a hook/clip and have the eskadron fluffies for comps (very easy to put on!)

I would say velcro are the easiest.

I have both leather tendon boots with stud and also velcro. Studs are easy to put on however too loose and they slip and then next hole too tight and too much pressure. With velcro you can tighten just the right amount and they are easy to take on/ off

Hate buckles. Love velcro! MY Eskadron ones are brilliant, so quick to take off. Plus I liked the fact they have really wide elastic straps so pressure is kept to a minimum which it isnt in those boots with the thin leathery straps.

hate buckles, had eskadrons which are fab basic boots, but the velcro on the fetlocks dissolved v quickly so have a v smart pair of leather ones with stud fastenings, v easy and £5 on ebay

Had many different types over the years. I find with buckles the holes are never in the right place & studs can have similar problems. Velcro every time, you get a perfect fit & an even pressure all down the leg. Easy to put on & very easy to remove, even when wet & muddy. Actual brand doesn't matter.
