Hey guys,

tmr is my first month anniversary with my 10-yr old mare (: But after riding today, I checked her tendons and she has a slightly warm spot just on top of the fetlock (the rest of the tendon seems fine)and which I thought was puffier than the rightfore. It doesn't seem terribly swollen but am still worried!

Please advise! I don't know how to tell if it's an early sign of a tendon injury or could it just be normal cos when I rode her, she seemed perfectly fine and not lame. However, I play polo with her so I don't know if all the stopping and turning today caused it! Should it be a cause for worry even if the swelling and heat goes down tomorrow?

all advise appreciated.

Thanks!

Any lumps, heat etc should be checked out & if there is heat then its best to cold hose. If the heat is confined to the fetlock it could indicate an infection in the foot.

do you wear boots or bandages? lots of horses get superheated tendons when worked in boots but of she knocks her legs then bandages or wraps are the better option as they have better air flow would explain the heat and doesnt tend to cause immediate damage but may long term... also just make sure you always wash her tendons after work if they are hot may just be natural...

Thanks guys.

Lydia she does wear polo wraps and boots on top just for extra protection!could this explain the heat and VERY slight puffiness? there aren't any lumps but just very slight difference in temp and slightly puffy(soft) area above the fetlock. It is a very small area and the canon bone tendon etc are fine. Gonna cold hose and put coolign gel today!

Advise is appreciated all. Thanks.
