Am 100% sure he has done a tendon.

He is about 2 - 3 10th lame, there is heat and is a little sore to pressure. Couldnt ring vet by the time I got him in. Cold hosed and bandaged him for the night.

Ill ring the vet in the morning and am sure he will want to come and see him but do I ring and suggest he is scanned when he is up at newmarket next week (seperate reason for going to Newmarket - snotty nose) Do you think Id be able to get both done at the same time?

bute, cold hosing and box rest. almost certainly a SDFT strain from the pics. normal practice to wait a week before scannign to let swelling go down so dont see any reason why cant be done next week - just not sure i'd want him to travel with a tendon injury if possible not to. could he be scanned at the yard and postpone the newmarket trip for a bit?

i'd be icing it as much as possible in the first 48 hours. ice, leave on 10-15 mins, leave 20 mins, ice again. this is really worthwhile.
i'd have him on a very very deep bed, on box rest.
as above, scans can't be done yet anyway, in a week would prob be ideal. very sincerely hope it's not done a tendon.

Cold, cold, more cold!!! Hose and ice and anything you can do... I missed my chance with this with my mare and I really wish I hadn't. I agree with star (well I would do cos she's a vet

) about postponing the Newmarket trip - my mare had a bad tear to her DDFT and I wasn't allowed to travel her until she was sound(er), and even then I had to be VERY careful with her as she was lame on both front legs with a compensating injury in the "good" leg. Travelling her would have put far too much strain on both legs to justify. I would also go down the route of asking for a scan at home for that reason.
I really hope it heals ok - I don't think there's any point hoping it's not a tendon as I think it's fairly obvious it is!

Fingers crossed for you!

Vet came out yesterday and he isnt sounding all too hopeful! He is booked in for a scan next weds at Rossdales (practice doesnt have a scanner so he needs to go)

Vet is suprised that he isnt more lame but he had been buted prior to him coming. Am cold hosing which is getting the swelling down abit and then ice gel and bandaging!

Roll on wednesday

Hey Nat, you know my views on his leg!! I have absolutely everything crossed for tomorrow!! Make sure you keep me posted im a phone call away chick xxx
