My mare has 'blown' her tendon at the bottom of her hind leg - only about 1/2 inch - vet has recommended field rest then gradual increase in work load - I will now work her in back bandages but do you think turnout boots in the field (turned out 0700 - 1700ish) will help support the leg or make it worse? She generally gallops off to hayrack then stands still most off day except for the odd mooch.

Boots are generally considered to keep the tendons warm, possibly not such an issue in cold weather but I think as they can offer no real support, could cause heating and if she does not tend to hooley around she is unlikely to bang herself.
If turning out following box rest I would use them the first day then leave her without any.

She has got nothing to bang on - just thought the support and slight pressure might help? - they are turnout boots which go all way down to hoof to keep mud off legs not just brush boots.

My boy blew a tendon (i think it was an old racing injury that re-surfaced) and although it is fine now (odd bit of heat if i work excessively on hard ground) i always turn out in Premier Equine Air Cooled tendon boots. (i also hack out in them too)

His legs have never over heated in them and i know people rave on about its better not to boot but each to their own, our ground has to many mole hills and when they hooney around its just not worth the risk (i know the boots cant prevent everything but they seem to be doing the job 2 years later!)

It maybe trial and error, i'd avoid anything neoprene or material that will sweat.
