Friends horse has a tendon injury and the vet has said she needs two years off??!! Is that right seems very long time!

Shes isnt stabled so will have a small area in field. She can then be walked for ten min after two to three months. And then gradually lead up to half hour walk a day.

I have never had a horse with injury like this so am asking for any tips, advice for my friend....Thanks guys x

What sort of tendon injury? Which tendon and leg? My mare had a tear in her DDFT within her hoof and was diagnosed via MRI scan. She had double wedge shoes and couldnt come out of her stable for a month. Wedges were lowered after that for a month then she was in egg bar shoes. Handwalked for 3 short sessions per day whilst stabled and we gradually moved towards ridden work 6 months later and she was stabled all this time through winter. She was turned out in a small paddock on 9th May this year and has so far stayed sound thankfully. We are up to 1half hours hacking, no schooling until now though we havent been able to do much due to the deep sand due to the dry weather. Tendons take ages to heal so it can take up to 2 years, I was told the same. The blood supply to the horses lower leg is not so good and that is a factor in the healing process. Magnetic boots are good as they increase the blood supply and I also feed NAF MSM which is for tendons and ligaments.
