hi there my 15.2 Irish sports last may did his SDFT in his Near fore after box rest and controlled exercise just walking in-hand he was finally given the all clear in January 2012 i began increasing his work again just walking in hand and and some trot work on the school, however after a week swelling re appeared and heat also he is not 100% sound. just wondered if anyone had experienced this before or had any advice?

Don't work the horse in the school - you need to work it on a hard surface (ie roadwork). But if the horse is not sound, you need the vet out to re-scan.
 
Agree with AmyMay. Mine did his SDFT in october 2010. After box rest he did three months walking out on the roads (ridden as he can be silly in-hand) followed by another three months on the roads with trot being introduced and gradually built up. He did not see the school until May/June 2011 and that was only after a re-scan by the vet and the all-clear to start very light work (ie, walk and very little trot up the long sides only) in the school.
 
Lameness + heat + swelling = need to scan to see what is going on!

Reassess foot balance. Stop working in the school. You're really looking at 12 - 18 months for a 'full' return to work in most cases, and that's if it all goes well.
