My mare is on box rest this week because an old tendon sheath injury has flared up. I didn't even know she had an old tendon sheath injury. Oh well.
Her owner says it occasionally 'just happens' and will go away on its own. YM agrees she'll be fine after a week off. She's bright eyed and not reluctant to move about, and she's happy enough to dangle either foreleg in the air for a treat, so can't be in that much pain but I feel awful because I have no idea what caused it, I can't fix it and I can't prevent it from happening again.
Any stories about horses with injuries that keep flaring up doing well? Still hacking and schooling and competing?
Better yet, any ideas what might cause it and how I can stop it from happening again???
