Tendon Sheath Strains

Please can I hear people's experiences with these ?

Any information on success with laser therapy on them too please?

Currently going through this or I think I am with my delicate TB boy. We've come to the conclusion it must be a tendon sheath strain or similar due to a process of elimination. He was hopping lame so had a scan which revealed nothing and a contrast X-ray which also revealed nothing so we are assuming it's a tendon sheath strain. He is on his 5th week of rest( not box rest as he can't tolerate it but has been in a stable sized paddock) and is now sound. He got the go ahead yesterday for his paddock to be increased to the size of half a tennis court.This morning he was so excited to be released into a bigger space he did a tremendous buck and slipped right over!!! Fingers crossed, no farther harm done and yes he is on sedalin. Anyway vet says I can get on him in ten days and see how he feels. Hoping for success without any intervention

That is really interesting thank you. She is on the same, 6 weeks on small paddock rest. However she isn't lame in the slightest and is only swollen and hot only 5 days in and she is already bored.

My boy's swelling has greatly reduced, just has a little bit at the back of his pastern and no heat. It was swollen above the fetlock when he did it.Will report back when I get back on. Interesting that your girl isn't lame. Anyway hope she gets well soon.

Has the vet scanned the tendon and ligaments? Not all horses go lame with tendon injuries. There's not much point in scawning a leg for 7-10 days post initial injury as the there will be too much swelling to see and things get worse in the first week before they get better.

Personally I would be icing the leg as much as possible for the time being.

My horse did this in April 2013, despite numerous attempts to get him back to work and numerous injections of steroids we only got him to 45 minute walk and 3 1 minute trots before it went again. Now virtually retired.

The tendon flares up if he runs to much or over stretches on the lunge

Mine had an ultrasound scan to determine the injury and then was re-scanned after 6 weeks or so of limited box/grazing in hand, when I could start riding him, but was told no complete turn out until he was doing 1 hour's work.

That was when the trouble started as this dope on a rope turned into a raving lunatic and after 2 weeks of trying gentle exercise had to send him away where he started his exercise regime on sedative. Never been lame since and went back to same working level as before. Which tbh, isn't that great, but we went back to Trec and showing.

sorry no experience on lazer, but my gelding has had to retire at 16 due to tendon sheath sprain in 2013 and despite numerous slow attempts tp bring him back into work it went again. He went 100 % sound a few times but the moment anything more than a 3 1 minute trots it went again

Good news everyone, we are on week 5 out of 6 of rest and for a week now there has been no lameness, heat and only a thumb print sized swelling. she will be coming back into work (fingers crossed) in about 10 days but was wondering what you recommend to start with? obviously only walking but should i be heavily restricting time? we only hack really. thank you!

Uually you would start off with 5mins twice a day and increase by 5mins every week.
