Have any of you had a horse with a bad tendon that they couldnt stable? do they make the same recovery? I know some people dont believe in box rest, i've never had to face this before....

my mare did her tendon in and wasnt very good on box rest. My vet recommended turn out as normally once shes been in for a few days all she does is gallop around for ages which wouldnt be any good for a tendon injury.

She was kept in a smallish paddock with boots to support her leg. She wasnt given much pain relief as if she wasnt feeling her leg she wouldnt be inclined to gallop around.

She made a full recovery and has no problems with it now.

Oh thanks for that, i feel better now, its very depressing!!

She would be the same couped up in a stable, and yes if she has pain relief she would gallop about too, not helping her leg at all... she's only 12 years old.. i hope she makes a good recovery, i feel so helpless as she's hobbling around.

E-c-w.. i just ordered a pair of bioflow tendon wraps... i've heard only positive things about it.

mmm a bonner bandage.. i will look it up!

there are many people particularly in the hunting and racing fraternities who advise removing all shoes and having the feet trimmed to the extreme (so the horse is sore and not inclined to gallop about) who then turn them away for six months and get their horses back perfectly well.
