tennessee walking horse stacks etc banning

Stacking only just scratches the surface...This goes FAR deeper than stacked shoes which alone are barbaric and deform hooves, creating dishes where held on and elongating the toe and affecting tendon flex by altering the natural position of the whole lower leg physically so even when removed the poor creature wouldn't be able to stand or move properly and painlessly. Much like a person binding the foot or wearing heels from a very young age, shortening the tendons and deforming bones. Not to mention that many trainers place objects within the "stack" to put excessive pressure on the frog and sole. I researched it and wish I hadn't - I can't believe how barbaric people can be. It's tragic and despite legislation will probably go on behind the scenes to satisfy greed and status.

It's all connected though, stacking is integral to anything else and if there is no money to go after there will be no advantage to it going on behind the scenes- as stacking a horse at home and taking them off at shows won't work. I think the current issue is that I am told trump has put a hold on on all legislation going through which will include this.

What I want to know is why they are doing this at all. Surely if you want a high stepping horse you breed a horse that has it naturally, then train it to do it more. As said in the thread already the best horse is never the best horse, I find that in a lot of American miniature classes. Some AMs are shocking movers with very weak hind action but they "look" nice when they are set to perfection. Personally I always take a mover over a stander and thankfully the local shows here tend to agree - one in particular absolutely hates American minis because of how crap they usually move and how crap their back ends are, which is okay for me cause mine are not that way but the rest of the class were very annoyed that a small fat Shetland type won over their pampered skinny Americans cause its legs were straight hahaha I took reserve and he said it was a very close call but the shetlands legs were just that bit straighter (but then my stallion was bouncing about lol)

Because there is money in winning classes and it isn't easy to breed the best moving horse it's easier to manufacture it.

Anything shown saddleseat will probably have some form of "enhancement" to make it snap the legs up, whether that be shoes, pads, chains, bungees, wooden balls, weighted shoes, overlong hooves, whatever. The whole thing is a travesty, and the horses subjected to this (TWH, Saddlebred, Morgan, Arabian, PRE, Friesian, American Shetlands - nothing like actual shetlands) are all amazingly good natured, stoic animals. They have to be; imagine trying that sort of carry on with TB's or Irish Sport Horses?

I agree, and just like you hope this is the end but only time will tell.

True. But all that hard work to deform and ruin an animal :( how can you ever get through to them though. You can ban anything and everything but until they believe it is wrong they won't stop it.

Taking the money away helps, that is why it got to this point, big bucks compared to showing in this country!

It's nice and and impressive display of how great the body can be that if taken down correctly some do seem to do ok out of stacks, possibly because for a lot they don't show too long if they aren't good enough as a 2/3 year old so still young enough to heal up.
