Tennis elbow ,poo pickers elbow ?

My hubby had this quite bad and had to have a steriod injection in the elbow joint, although the injection was painful he did not suffer again for years, he has had it once more and had the injection again.
He as not tennis elbow again it may be worth having a chat to your doctor and see what he thinks.
When i poo pick it,s my wrist that hurts and i don,t want to think whats lurking under the snow.

Praise the Lord, I thought I was the only one! I've got Poo-Pickers Elbow and its a flipping nightmare. Oral anti-inflammatory drugs haven't worked, the brace hasn't worked - in fact it hurts even more when I wear it. The only thing that has given me temporary relief is Voltarol Gel. This is a topical gel containing the anti-inflammatory drug Diclofenac. Whilst we are this subject of bizarre repetive strain injuries, does anyone suffer from Sausage Toe? One of my toes resembles a cocktail sausage and when it flares up its a good indication of cold weather a coming.

Poo picker elbow....oh yes!!! Likewise poo to anti inflammatories but my physio gave me a good couple of stretching exercises which I do morning, night and after every mucking out session, its keeping it at bay sufficiently. Now how to describe them??? 1. Hold your arm out straight in front of you, palm up. Hold your fingers with your other hand and stretch them down so that you feel the muscles/tendons stretching. Hold for 10 secs, repeat 3 times. 2. Hold arm out with palm facing outwards. Bend Hand at wrist so fingers pointing away from you and push with other hand until you feel the stretch. ditto hold and repeat. Hope it helps!

I don't have Sausage Toe - surprising since so many of the have been broken over the years but i'll raise you rheumatic heel, which feels like somebody is sticking hot needles into it when the weather is changing.

No poo pickers elbow either - just Muck-outers Wrist. Ibuprofen gel on it every night seems to help but it does hurt every day

I thought I was the only one! It has kept me awake at night with shooting pains, particularly when doing a 3 mare and foal field (plus other fields) during the summer. My solution was to plead with my husband to do it at weekends. If you are strict and pick the scoop up between your legs in a straight line to the barrow, that does not inflame the joint so much. With the unloading arm, it was the rotation in the air of the full scoop that caused mine.

LOL I thought I was the only one, my physio looked at me strangely when I said that it started in the spring when I started poo picking my fields? My solution get a muck hoover....anti inflammatory's, pain killers nothing helped mine so I stopped physically doing it and got a machine.

Havent got poo pickers elbow, but do have tendonitis in left elbow from carrying plates at work for too many years (worked in a restaurant) The repetitive movement of it started it off. Have had it on and off for around 2 years now, was offered the injection but refused as too many i've spoken to (inc a nurse) said it hurt like hell at the time & didnt do anything for them. The only thing that keeps mine at bay when it flares up is voltarol gel. It's great stuff!!

Sorry you're suffering. I'd try an ice pack around the elbow for 10-15 minutes (wrap it up in a tea towel to avoid an ice burn), as this will hopefully reduce some inflammation too. Could also try some therapuetic ultrasound on elbow with a health professional in your area.
If you have any pain referring down your arm or into your fingers might be worth getting checked out.
With it been a RSI you may have to switch hands or get someone to help as rest is best (but not always practical!) Good luck

I hope its not too late to add another one.

I found 2 things helped me enormously - so much so its not flared up since.

Try and trace what might have caused it - mine started when I used the long handled pitchfork to muck out with, although the pain really kicked off with the poo picking. I stopped using the long pitchfork and always use a D handled tool now. I made an "ergonomic" (rugby ball shaped) grip on the poo picker with vetwrap and insulating tape. The pain went almost immediately I did this and started using it.

I've never suffered since

I truly share your pain, it was agony sometimes, especially in the evenings. Not funny when I had 7 stables to look forward to mucking out the following day.

blimey, i am not alone! all last winter i had really painful wrists and i didnt know why. then in oct, my right elbow started hurting. like acute pain. luckily we finished poo picking not long after as we only do it in the small summer paddock. however, the pain has not gone away. it got so bad at one point, i cudnt use that arm to groom my pony. me being me, doesnt like to bother the doc about aches and pains, but 3 months on and it still hurts and a whole sprng/summer of poo picking ahead. maybe i will toddle down to the surgery.

Me too. Sometimes I can't even pick up the kettle, which is obviously disastrous! (but also the grooming thing)
Why is it only my right elbow though? I use rubber gloves to poo-pick so am using both hands and of course I'm not pushing the wheelbarrow one-handed either.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as still having some trouble, after a year and 3 steroid injections into the elbow - and on full livery. I'm now having to go diy and dreading it.

Anyone tried anything to help with the grooming aspect? Which shape dandy brush is best?
