Hi...my 8 year old mare has been diagnosed with chronic tenosynovitis with plantar annular ligament constriction. She was referred to Leahurst and went in on the 22nd of july. The operated on the friday, trimming all the loose fibres off the tendons and cut annular ligament in both hind legs, pony came home 4 days later and was fine on complete box rest. Monday 5th august, pony was slightly lame on one hind leg. Vet came and removed sutures and injected hyaluronic acid into both tendon sheaths. She went from slightly uncomfy to crippled on 3 legs in space of 4 hours. Emergency referral to Leahurst and we arrived in the early hours of tuesday morning. Pony went back into surgery and had a tendon flush. Shes now off painkillers but still on antibiotics. Having taps every other day and levels have dropped slightly but they cant tell if its just a flare or an infection. Worried sick and just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this? Any advice is welcome, thankyou x

Sorry I can't be on much help, but my horse went lame in both hinds and slightly in front too. After many tests the area that has an issue is tendon sheaths. He has had injections into both sheaths, and is now just on 30 minutes walk. Swelling has gone down a bit though as it looked like a huge wingall.

Pony is on antibiotics to fight any infection which is good. My vet warned me that with injections to the tendons or bones, there is always a risk of infection. Are they coming out regularly to check pony?? I would think this was very important to keep regular checks on it. I would ask vet if they need to check it every other day or at least speak to you to monitor any slight changes.

It could be just a flare up but you need to be aware of any slight change to horse how ever small and notify vet to catch anything early. Please keep this post updated, fingers crossed for your pony:)

Xena is in Leahurst Equine Hospital. She has been there since early hours of tuesday morning when she was rushed in as an emergency referral. They wont allow her home until she is definitely better. Iv been to see her today and they have scanned her again and the surgeon doesnt think she is septic lame. The parametres are showing the same results as they would with inflammation and infection so they cant say for definite what is going on. One of the surgery portals is leaking slightly but the vet said that can be quite normal. If things havnt settled down mid week they will possibly take her back into surgery and re-flush her leg out and close it back up again x

Hi, my pony had an annular ligament desmotomy last year.I won't go into all the details but after the op everything that could go wrong did go wrong and he was in hospital for three weeks. What I want you to know is that the op was a success, today we went to a show and the judge commented on his fantastic paces :) Mr T didn't have any tendon damage so I don't have any experience of that. I hope your mare will soon be feeling better.

The actual op was a success but he had to have colic surgery two days later, he had the same complications as the racehorse St Nicholas Abbey. X
