Picked up an old book on conformation at a car boot sale this weekend - there are some great old fashioned terms to describe conformation. Are any of these still used? Here are a few examples. Must admit I'd never heard of some of these.....
bosomy - chest is abnormally prominent
butty - short legged, short backed, deep bodied horse
churn-barrelled - well ribbed up
cock throttled - head and neck badly set on
fiddle headed - a large long plain head
hocks in the next county - hocks set way out behind horse's body
mouldy - a very good model, round and attractive
showing daylight - tall leggy horse
varminty - an attractive cheeky looking horse
well let down - the horse's body is close to the ground, also describes a horse in good condition.

My horse is bosomy, varminty and well let down!

hehe...I've heard of mouldy but not with that definition!

There was a horse at my first yard that was some weird kind of appalossa, but I swear it just looked like it was going mouldy!
