In the interests of balance in any debate I wanted to assert that in fact, terriers are good for your health :) :) I have had an awful few days with my sister (and only remaining member of my birth family) very very unwell in hospital with Covid. It is a horrible, frightening time so I did what all good dog owners do and took my terrier to work with me to try to help me stay relatively 'sane'. I am not allowed to take him to work for sure but with no students on campus and none of my team working in the office at the mo I did think it would be safe enough to sneak him in. He was totally brilliant - rather self important about entering such a big building at first but completely relaxed in my office, laying by my feet and sleeping whilst I worked. It really really helped me to have him there to talk to and cuddle when I was feeling particularly bleak. Not a soul knew he was there though had someone just entered the office they would have been surprised by the animated coir mat grinning and wriggling at them. But I pulled it off and I am so grateful to my lad. He made working today possible. Please HHO don't tell a soul...!!!:D:D:D An added bonus was that I was actually able to speak to my sister very briefly later this afternoon; she is struggling and this will be a huge battle for her but I am deeply grateful to have been able to talk to her.

I hope your sister makes a good recovery. Terriers are most definitely good for your health. I have had a bad day today, feeling totally exhausted and in a lot of pain, and yet my boys still manage to make me smile when they snuggle up next to me.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day @EventingMum :( There is nothing like a dog though when you need comforting. They just know what is needed. I really hope you feel better soon.

You are totally right of course Palo ?

I’m so sorry to hear about your sister, I do hope she makes a full recovery x

EventingMum, likewise I hope you feel better soon too x

I’ve had a lousy day at work - my first major punch up with my head of department the day after I’ve accepted the permanent job I don’t actually want ? - so there has been a lot of Colin and George cuddling going on for me today ?

Sorry you have had an awful day too @Levrier. At least you are in a position now to tell your head of department how things need to be!! You will find another job - but for now you have a breathing space to find the right thing. Good on the dogs for helping all of us today. :) :)

Glad you have the security of a job even if you don't want it. Hopefully, a better alternative turns up soon and in the meantime, George and Colin give you plenty of cuddles x

I am sorry to everyone having a poor day. I too had a poor day, as soon as I got home two terriers were jumping at my legs, and they don't normally jump. I think they knew I was feeling down. Two little licky tongues too. In fact, Hector snuggled up on my knee even though there was food on offer from Mr Red. Lovey terriers.

I hope your sister recovers well OP. Covid is such a horrible thing. I had a fight in shop recently with a young lad who insisted he didn't need to wear a mask. Its so selfish.

I miss my terrier so much. Especially since in the last few weeks my OH has been sacked, my mum died and a very old friend lost her husband to a massive heart attack. To have had a terrier to cuddle would've helped enormously.

I'll solve your problem, just send Colin to me! :D

??????

well today I was too busy focusing on work (my fault, I should have been watching him!) and he did this....

F30F07EB-1C32-40E0-A399-46B31FB5EFC5.jpegThat is foam from the sofa all over the floor..... the matching chair is already banished to the garages because Colin did the same to that!... he knows I hate the furniture because my ex left it behind, so he is trying to hasten it’s departure ?

But sorry no, there is no way in the world he is going anywhere ???

Thank you all - my sister is making good progress I am hugely relieved and delighted to report :) :) She is not on oxygen as of today and as the ward is so busy and number of patients needing specialist beds in the Covid wards are increasing, she may actually be able to go home in the next couple of days. She has had what she calls 'the most frightening experience - the closest to death I have ever felt'. :( She is a nurse who recently reached the milestone of 35 years working for the NHS and has vast experience of ITU and A&E nursing as well as having carried out action research on near death experiences to inform good nursing practice in ITU. Lately she has been working as a community nurse working with children in care. She is no snowflake!! :D:D. My sister is under 55 and has no pre-existing health conditions though she is (sorry sis!!) overweight. On Tuesday we thought that she would need ventilation and were concerned that she may arrest. Today however she is doing well. It will be quite a journey back to health for her but I am so, so relieved that she looks in a good position to make that journey. My wiry, terriery friend continues to be my shadow and I will forgive him a number of terrier-type transgressions due to his gentle and apparant understanding of my distress this last week - bless him, he has not left my side and has been quiet and affectionate absolutely when I have needed that. At this moment he is roaring round asking to play with a variety of toys!! :) :) Thank you so much for your kind words on here too.
