WELL, not to blow my own trumpet (or whatever the saying is) but tonight was a little bit amazing :o

Some background - 3yo TB bought by young girl who has just sold 12year old allrounder PC pony. Can't control it, beats it up and makes it terrified of jjumping so sends it to dodgy point to point trainer person. Dodgy trainer continues the beatings, and can't get it to do anything.

So i was told he simply will *not* jump as he's so very, very badly behaved. Apparently you can't even have jumps in the school as he freaks out.

So tonight I started off very gently riding round, then had a wing and pole brought in and continued riding round, being very gentle and praising when he went past (he was quite spooky and napping). Then I asked him to step over a pole on the floor, which took a few tries, but he did it. The girl said it took her 40 minutes of hitting and smacking and sweating to do it. Then trotted over, each way.

Continued this until we got to the point we were happily cantering over a 2ft upright, ears pricked and snorting happily.

So yes, I am SO happy for him. He's only 6 and a real star. He's not badly behaved, or even scared of jumping, he's just scared of getting hit and smacked, and so associates jumping with pain. So today I let him run on a bit and enjoy himself.

So just going to continue this over the next few weeks, lots of pats and praises and strong forward riding. She's offered to give me him for free, too.

I don't mean to offend her in any way, I just don't think she is suited to this type of horse, at all. And neither does she; she says the last time she tried to jump him 2ft (a year ago) he reared, and crushed her breaking her ribs. Today (and yesterday) he was a star.

So a good post from me :D:D:D:D
Will take some piccies and upload soon!

oh thats good to hear:D i'm sure it won't be long before he's back to normal if he's responded so well to your first session. just be prepared to take a few steps back if you need to:)

Well done. Keep up the good work. He's so lucky to have you in his life now. Someone who will treat him with the respect he so clearly deserves.
