Not being funny, but why would you go cheaper just because it's a youngster? Do their heads change shape or something?

Yes rugs etc but not bridles - you would not leave them alone with a bridle on anyway

Are they appalling Very tempted by £44 price mark for my youngster

[/ QUOTE ]

My Heritage one was not a lot more than that and it is superb quality - would not really trust the Tesco one - have a look on eBay - just don't touch the Gallop ones

To answer your question direct without picking holes i would say why not, i would definately buy from tesco, if it turns out to be awful you will not bother again, but nothing ventured nothing gained

Okay not meaning to argue but they can be fidgets (as can other horses) and decide they need a rub on the wall whilst your popping your saddle, or decide the throat lash looks like it needs a chew whilst your popping the headpiece over their ears etc etc. My horse has established the perfect swing to pop it straight into her mouth.

I only want to know if anyone's seen one?? Why the debate?!

i woudl not go near tesco or brands that are not equine specialist as they cannot cater for the horses needs as well as a team of designers who know what the rider and horse needs. check ebay out

Sorry Appennea, wasn't meaning to 'debate', just the comment about a cheaper one tickled me that's all.

In answer to your question: I haven't seen them so can't comment, but if it is likely to get trashed don't really see how you can loose if you've looked at it and it seems reasonable quality, why not.

As I said in my second (useful) post - Heritage Comfort Bridles are slightly cheaper AND good quality.

Funny though - I have always had youngsters - never had one chew a bridle whilst I put it on though BUT I have had one chew the cantle of a saddle

My young girl has a synthetic bridle at the moment and the way its been raining the past couple of days I'm glad. But I am looking forward to buying her a "proper" bridle but it's going to have to wait until next year when she'll hopefully have done most of her shape changing - and then I'll get her a better saddle and a bridle to match.

I've known people use the gallop ones, and although not the best leather, they lasted pretty welll for the price, and the padding on the headpiece noseband wasnt bad.

I agree with Sirena, I would recommend the Heritage bridles. I picked mine up from ebay for about £40 and its really nice quality. Dunno what it is about Tesco, but I don't think I would buy one.

I did buy one - cos it was so cheap - it was not a patch on Heritage - put it back on eBay as I hated it, the padding on the headpiece was not nearly so squishy (technical term

Don't need a flash so don't need the attachment - but can I find a bridle that looks comfy and "squishy" with not flash attachment? Can I bo*****s!!! Just been outbid on a Stubben one on ebay that would have done the job!

Oh god there is a trade stand at most horsey events..black and yellow, sells bridles for £10, cant remember what it is called, now they are fantastic, nice cheap exercise bridles, for £10 its ace, hasnt snapped on me and had it monthes. I understand what you mean, rubbing head on corner of manger when you hop off kind of thing, wouldn't buy an expensive bridle unless you need to.

Well, i'd buy anything from anywhere if the price and quality were right. However, at £44 in Tesco it doesn't sound particularly good value to me

I paid nearer £20 for an Olympian Comfort bridle which has oiled up nicely and is excellent quality for the money

Shop around, there are real bargains to be had

For all Tesco aren't equine specialists - they have to buy the tack off a supplier who you would expect to be specialist - Tesco don't actually make them!

Most supermarket items are made at the same factories as named brands just with a different label - for example I bought some Sainsburies muscle soak bath foam and it is EXACTLY the same smell and colour as the Radox one, and if there is any difference I'll eat hay with a donkey!!!

Sorry, got a bit carried away but my point is just because its sold in Tescos, doesn't mean its not actually a decent make but without their own branding, with Tesco's instead?

If I looked and Tesco/Aldi/Lidl were selling what looked like reasonable quality, cheaply - I'd certainly try it. Not hats maybe, I'd be wary of standards and fitting without a professional, but I know the fleece and fly rugs from Aldi were fab!

Rambo - where did you get the Olympian one from so cheap?

I woul have no problem buying from Tesco's IF the stuff was actually cheaper. You know if there are any problems they will refund. I bought a load of stuff in store before I bought my horse and then found if I had shopped around I could have saved lots. You can easily pick up a leather bridle for under £30 I think rideaway sell a kinkade bridle.

The Lidl stuff was brilliant as long as you had a horse around the 6'3/6'6 size - which is all 3 of ours!

Fleece - £10, fly net £10, D bucket a couple of quid, comb/sweat scraper really cheap!

However, if the Tesco bridle was more expensive than others of a similar type, I'd go for the best value. £44 isn't that cheap. Glad we were warned about the gallop one though, I was looking at them!

The Kinkade from Rideaway etc is OK but they aren't comfort ones, I've got the Hunter one as a show bridle and its fine!

S_V - My inlaws bought me a bridle at the weekend and like you, I didnt want a flash (nor the attachment for one so just pulling it off wasnt an option). Also wanted pretty hefty padding around the poll.

I opted for an Albion bridle and its really lovely. I got the choice of noseband and reins and it looks fantastic with lots of squishyness around the poll and nose.

It wasnt cheap but the leather is exceptional so I dont mind as much. Anyway! It's just an option for you

We have 2 youngsters and one other all in Heritage Comforts at the yard, super quality for the price. Got mine on ebay and it worked out around £40/£45 with the post and packing.

I have to say Id be very wary of buying something like a bridle from Tesco....I would be worried about the strength and quality.
