i recently bought some exercise boots and reflective brushing boots from tesco direct, they arrived really quickly and were a lot better than i expected and you get clubcard points aswell

has anyone else bought any stuff from the equestrian shop? what did you think of the stuff?

I've only bought a cooler when they had them in store, but the quality was quite good, especially as it was reduced to £9.99, oh, I bought little things like hoof picks, which always get lost. Will have to check out the site now !

Just been on their site for a looksee....I don't think any of it's particularly cheap tbh

I've always got better deals from the internet on named brand stuff in the past...just need to shop around and look for the deals

you can get to it through tesco.com, if you go to the Tesco direct link and then the sports section.

We support Tesco.net and I swear that Tesco are trying to take over the world !

They've got a lot more to come...

i bought two black headcollars and some navy stable bandages when the prices came down to half price, but i only bought them because they were a bargain and havent used anything yet, but they look ok, nothing special though

I bought two rain sheets really cheap when they were in stored think I payed £12 each ( only reason I bought them) they are not that bad they keep my horses dry, they dry really quickly. the only problem I've had is the lining get really dirty and sticky. They have done well with my two for the last few months, going to get them cleaned for spring and see how they do, even if it is just as a spare to go over some thing.

Well I have to say that I have had some wonderful bits and bobs from Lidl. The travel boots are superb and I bought a fly sheet, which for £9.99 was an excellent buy so I went back and got another one

Don't mean to offend but not all of us can afford to be so 'snobby' about where we buy our horsey bits from. If Tesco products are as good as Lidl's then I think you are missing out on some super bargains. I still support my local tack shop (with my rug addiction

) but if I can get an item at a bargain price then I am all for supermarkets stocking equestrian gear.

Ok just a thought and im probably showing my age but.....huge supermarkets have been the demise of the local shop, will they be taking the business away from our local tack shops in the futre. Food for thought, but a possibility, Im not anti tesco, my other half works for them.

Ginnie - I totally agree & feel that anyone who supports these supermarkets will ultimately be responible for the demise of their local tack shops.

GB - no offence taken. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford to be 'snobby' & therefore will continue to support my local tack shop.

It's not a case of snobbery, just getting realistic with what you can actually get for your money if you wait for the bargains on name brand stuff. You quoted a Lidl fly sheet for £9.99....I got a name brand one for the same price form a mobile tack shop at a horse show. I also paid £15 for an Olympian bridle via an internet outlet as they were selling them off cheap. The Tesco fleece show rugs are about £40 on the site, I bought a Weatherbeata one for about £20, and a Mark Todd for £39.99 ! Which would you rather have

The point is that if you need something NOW you won't always get the best deal, but if you can buy things when they come up at a bargain price, you can save yourself a fortune

I have a motto :-

Very true Rambo! When everyone is using this year's colours NEXT year & being very 'last year' (darling!), you'll be ABOVE that cause yours will be 2 years old & almost ready to come round again!!!

Of course it's not just the tack shops that may be affected by the supermarkets, but the manufacturers of the decent brands as well... It would be a crying shame to lose some of the brands we know & love just because they can't compete with a supermarket.

OMG I never realised! I have to admit tho that none of it is a fab bargain - and TBH I think I would be happier with branded stuff because of the fit etc.

I'm not allowed to advertise my 13.2 fab teens pc pony - so I wont!

Does anyone know who manufactures the Tesco stuff? I can't imagine for one moment they have their own operation making riding hats - the initial investment would be far too large, I imagine the same might go for the other horse related items - the same way as a well know bean company makes own brand beans for another supermarket!

Do Tesco have any of this stuff in their stores? How do we find out which stores to go to to see the stock. I'd like to have a good look at their stuff!! Am particularly tempted by the bling browband and the leather headcollar!

Yes, it was announced in the trade press a few months ago. It's a couple of large Indian companies that manufacture the stuff, although the rumour is that there's a 'middleman' in the UK helping with selection - the middleman looks likely to be a big equine name that's known for a large range of economy items, particularly rug, although I'm not prepared to say who as it might be seen as defamatory! They haven't owned up to the relationship because their main business is with UK tack shops who would cut them dead if they found out it was them!
