Sorry i have not updates in a while, i lost my Ipod... found it in the field and it had survived rain :eek: It was on the side my boyfriend checked :rolleyes:

Anywho !

My sister back on board Tess 5 weeks after Dolly was born :)

Lovely photo update.

Just going to say that imo you most definitely should not be riding Tess. Let her do what she's supposed to be doing at the moment - and that is being a mum to her 5 week old foal.

Sorry, don't want to put a damp squid on an otherwise lovely adventure.

Can't believe it's been 5 weeks already! :eek::D
Dolly looks like a right solid girl, her neck is massive! ha ha!
Tess looks gorgeous, how did you get on with the first ride?
 
Lovely, and if Tess is happy with being ridden carry on, it's not like she's going out for hours (if she was a working horse in a 3rd world country she would) a bit of gentle riding will help get her fit again so when Dolly is weaned Tess can get going again that bit quicker. Love Dollys feathers, she's going to be quite impressive fully grown!

I know !!


She has always had a nice chunky neck used to pull carriages so might stem from that:o

put my lighter sister on and walked round for 5 mins with dolly following, hopped off afterwards that was it :) Thank you good though

I know there are different views and i didn't want to enter into an argument bit we are doing walk to hault transitions and having dolly lead behind and when we do light trot work dolly watches. All for 15 mins max :) Not hard work and if she was unhappy we would stop she has her tail in the are and flickers her toes out looks happy :)
 
Aw I love these two. I really wonder what Dolly's dad looks like. Tess looks really well. My friend is bringing her mare back in to work with foal at foot. I must admit I had never seen it done before foal was weaned before but vet gave go ahead and it seems to be working for them. Friend rides mare in grass arena and foal just munches and looks on, all very chilled out.

Ha ha! I mean Dolly has a huge muscly (sp?) neck ;) She's so cute I love seeing pics of her!

Does the string test work at her age, wondering how big she'll actually get since she's pretty big already! :D
 
Yes try the string test! I expect she'll make around 15hh? Just a guess lol
Dolly and mum both look fab, it looks like Tess and you have both done a great job to ensure that Dolly is growing up healthy and happy!
 
Boy, did you get lucky with that foal. She is an absolute pearler. She is going to make a super impressive ....... show cob maybe?!
 
Dolly is so lovely! Poor Tessy trying to make enough milk for that massive foal!

The hormone relaxin would still be very much present in Tessy's body so she could get injured very very easily when ridden. That's no criticism of you, each to their own. I guess I'm just putting myself in her shoes and trying to imagine exercise when I had a very young and hungry baby!
 
Strangely TessyBEAR, I had a skewbald mare that we called Dolly, well 'Hello Dolly' actually as that was what people always said when they met her, and her foal when I bought her we named Ted or 'Edward Bear' officially. So I feel some affinity here...lol

Dolly looking like she is growing up nicely! As much as I love to see the updates, I too would agree with not riding Tessy until Dolly weaned :).
 
There is no way Dolly is 5 weeks already :eek::eek: Wasn't she born about 10 days ago?? That is seriously scary.

Agree she's huge - she will dwarf her mum in a few months. She looks lovely - they both do.

I haveto agree with this, sorry but Tessy should not be being ridden yet.
 
Tb why don't you double check with your vet when it's best to start riding again.

I've no idea in horses but I know in people the hormones that relax all your tendons and ligaments take a while to go from your system so women who've had babies can have a minor ankle twist (nothing in a non pregnant/ just given birth person) that can give them life long problems because the ligaments are so loose still.

When I was pregnant last time it was it was this that made me give up riding as I could land from getting off, twist my knee and never ride again because the damage caused by the hormones in my system
 
I agree with others. I know you are caring owner and love them both very much, but I'd just be letting things 'be' at the moment, regardless of whether it's 5 minutes or 15.
Don't worry, she won't just forget things if she has some time off to be a mum. Plenty of time to enjoy her once baby is weaned. :) That's just my thoughts though. No offence meant.

Wasn't it only 3 weeks ago? Sure it was just before mine went out for summer, hence remembering the time.
 
definitely growing!

I don't see what is to be gained by/any benefits of riding her for 5 minutes though.
