Tess and Dolly update :-)

It's too early to do the string test. Dolly needs to be over 12 months old to get a true reading.

And I would also say please don't ride her yet. I know you aren't doing anything strenuous but don't forget her ligaments will have all stretched from the birth and her body is still recovering, despite how she looks from the outside. Just allow her some more time to concentrate on making great quality milk for her gorgeous daughter!!!

Sorry for the doom and gloom post... on a brighter note - agree with the others, Dolly has grown like a weed!!!! :D
 
Like i said i value opinions on here so will leave her for longer.

Dolly doesn't take much milk any more Tess is pushing her away and she now eats mainly grass and water :)

But yes she is growing like the clappers.
 
Well what a beauty she is and so biiiiiggggg lol. dont rush to ride hun. plenty of time for that. but little(!)dolly is a cracker :) x
 
I don't have a clue and if im hoenst feel pretty poo for riding .. Just didn't know about damage etc. Sorry guys i bet i look likea terrible owner :o

Dolly is a cheeky monkey yesterday she picked up my coat that i took off whilst poo picking, flipped it over her face and ran round with me trying to get hold of said little ***** !
 
No Tess you don't sound like a terrible owner. You are kind, considerate and on a steep learning curve xx

Lol hey come on hun your not a bad mummy. you have listened to some very wise people on here and learnt(for better word) we all do things and then learn differently. so chin up. you are doing fab

Thank you lovely, I have learnt so much over the past 3 months it's scary ! glad i have HHO for info or im not sure where we would be at the moment

Well it would be stupid to ignore good advice with those who have so much experience im very new to the horse owning world and defo new to foal world :) just checked the calendar :o:o:o 4 weeks....:o:o:o:o my bad :(
 
Don't feel bad Abbie. It seems to me that a very big stallion was put to your mare as Dolly is so huge. I do wish this practise would stop as so much of the genetics comes from the mare including size. It looks like Tess gave her all she could and maybe that has been detrimental to her milk supply. You can still do plenty of groundwork with Tess, and make sure that Dolly respects you because the very friendly ones can become extremely bolshy as they grow in size. I must admit that you got very good advice and I never thought I'd see AmyMay expressing emotion, you really got to her! You're doing grand.

Yes Dolly is going to be big, but defo poor old Tess ! thank you we will work with both of them on the ground and are keeping a check on Dolly we have almost clipped her biting stage in the bud :rolleyes: naughty little foal. I did and i am greatful for such advice :)

What a beautifull baby she is going to be one big girl. Just thought id mention though hope you dont mind, but in the second pic there looks to be a lot of ragwort in your paddock please correct me if im wrong.

She is ! and you are correct this is the "winter half" that is being sprayed in 2 weeks time neither horses are on it. We have lived in the house for under a year now and the paddock was riddled with them but we are getting there :)
 
I love the pic of Tess resting her head on Dolly...although give it a few more months and it will be the other way round! Both utterly lovely girls, you're doing a grand job with them

I got the camera out and it was almost a proud mummy moment i think :P I know gosh it will be scary ! thank you :)
