Test Results. (Veterinary)

First case scenario.
Horse was kicked, leg was cut, vet eventually called. Vet suspects possible joint infection, horse is hospitalised and fluid drained off joint and sent for testing.

Second Scenario
Strangles confirmed on yard. About a week or so later, another horse is off her food, very lethargic and lots of mucus from nose. Vet called on the Sunday and samples taken and sent off for analysis.

For a bacterial culture and sensitivity (which would certainly be performed on the strangles swab and probably on the joint sample too) it can take 7 - 10 days to get results as the lab have to wait for bacteria from the sample to colonise and grow before they can determine what is present, and which antibiotic will treat it. You cannot rush this procedure unfortunately. If it's been more than 10 days give the vets a ring.
