No, it's because it makes you think you're up to 4990 whereas in fact you're only up to 4090. Here it is...

Take 1000 and add 40 to it

=1040

Now add another 1000

=2040

Now add 30

=2070

Add another 1000

=3070

Now add 20

=3090

Now add another 1000

=4090

Now add 10 (this is where you think you're up to 4990)

=4100
