Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue?

I have had my horse 2 years now and he does certain things which make me think he wasn't castrated correctly.

If I wear perfume, he sniffs my neck, gets his old boy out and starts smacking it against his stomach
Gets very horny over mares, especially when they are in season
Is very very stubborn, has a huge neck
Will kick the door down if I don't show him attention
Randomly rears when stood on the yard, strikes out

Do you think these are signs? is there anything out there that can change him

Any advise is much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes they could be signs of a rig, but can also be seen in geldings, particularly if they wrre gelded late. The only way to find out for sure is to have your vet take a blood sample for oestrone sulphate measurement.

Thanks GreedyGuts

Think I will get him tested as this might be the reason for some of his issues.

I'm not to sure what happened in his life before I got him, his vaccinations, worming, feet were all out of date, so there may be a possibility him being gelded were late or not done properly

If they do find that its high, what would be the course of action? an injection, operation?

Thanks.
