who in there right mind thinks oh she's uncomfortable with ringworm, lets put a 4ft jump up! if you had an uncomfortable rash not sure you'd want to go for a run!

I haven't commented on these posts much at all but this has annoyed me!

right some of the people on here did suggest jumping too so stop having at go at me

Ah well....at least you are well on with treating her....

Slightly OT, I noticed you had made a video of her up for sale......Have you decided to sell her after all??

I do try and stand up for you in most of your posts, but you really dont make it easy for yourself, do you? You obviously know it wasnt the most sensible thing to do to take her and jump her, or you wouldnt of tried to justify yourself before any comment had been put up.

Glad you've got a confirmed diagnosis and hope she gets the all clear asap! Do be careful free schooling her over jumps though as you don't want to undo your *ahem* hard work steadying her up into fences-as lovely a jump in her stride it was, she looked rather speedy and I'd hate for you to head back down HHS stronger bits route when you start riding again!
Could you post a pic or two of her spots pls?I'm interested to see ringworm on a 'real horse' not just some googled pic!

wait before you go blaming me , i was told by a few on here i could jump her to make things more intresting :S

Don't worry to much, ringworm is annoying and spreads like mad but is actually fairly straightforward to treat. The scrub will help, if you want to help the itching a bit more, use any sort of soothing cream - NAF D-itch is quite good and helps to keep flies away as well.

Keep loose schooling her, maybe not jumping every time, although I'm sure a bit of loose jumping won't do her any harm at all.
Make sure you give her as much exercise as possible, especially if you are thinking of doing the fun ride.

Ohh ok thansk alot, no i hardly jump at home now anyway but a few people suggest it on here but now im getting a big telling off becasue off it?
thanks

Hiya, if shes still itching you can get something from your tack shop/ or chemist to treat it, it will be cheaper than getting it from the vets anyway!! :) always a good thing, honestly get calomine lotion i had a horse that had ringworm (caught in from fenicing where cows had been previously with ringworm) he didnt itch at all once we starting using it. They main use for it is, chickenpox spots to stop them itching.

As for the jumping/exercising ect. My vet told me to carry on schooling jumping ect as long as the tack isnt rubbing so dont worry about, its good to keep her going and fit and her mind occupied while shes not going out! And that was my vets advice. :);)

At least the diagnosis is as thought.

One thing I would say though is, ringworm is super infectious, do be careful about anything she touches (including anything in the school) as you could very easily pass it on to other liveries and I am sure they would not be best pleased!

Aloe Vera very good for itchy ponies, cheap and cheerful from the supermarket. Don't get one from tack shop as will be very expensive for the same thing.

I agree with the exercise thing as it will also keep her mind off the itching, but be careful if she gets sweaty as this could make her even more itchy.

I think it's more the height of the fence that shocked people but hey, you're young and massive jumps are the coolest thing on earth ( I was always too much of a fanny to jump anything 4ft plus more than once, nearly peed my pants at it lol but I do get it!) and you'll learn its not all about height of fences in time. I ride a pony for a girl similar age to you and she's just the same, but means no harm. Just accept you WILL get some people having a dig, don't get offended, one day you'll be shocked by teenage horsing around too and outraged enough to pipe up!!haha

OK I haven't followed any of your previous threads, but thought I'd comment as I and my horse both had ringworm once, I can't say either of us itched, I only had one patch but my mare had it all over her!! She was put into isolation due to the infection to others, unfortunately the yard didn't want her out touching fences etc so just walked her out to exercise, I'm sure we just scrubed her with virkon daily and it went very quickly. Containment was pretty good, only her and 1 other horse had it at the same time, out of a yard of american barn stables with about 20 stables. Just watch what you touch and keep a hand clean gel with you.

What were you told to do with the "scrub"? And what is the "Scrub"?

There is no reason why you cant ride your pony but you do need to disinfect tack afterwards which would stop me from riding purely because of the inconvenience. But you cant compete. I am still surprised she is itchy. My pony had ringworm and wasnt itchy at all and didnt bleed. Maybe it is the flies.

i cant ride because on one side the ringworms were the girth and numham goes

correct me if im wrong but hasnt this pony got a hock spavin? if so she should NOT be jumping 4ft, it really wont do her any good, but, if im wrong about the spavin, say so :P

I'm not sure about the ringworm treatment as I've never had to deal with it myself, but I'm sure others can advise.

But, I often loose school our sec A as I don't like to ride him too much and lunging gets a bit boring. He loves his jumping as well. So I often start off with trotting poles, and then raised trotting poles, and then move onto small grids. I'm no great expert, but I do find this gives him plenty to think about and he doesn't rush into the jumps as he does just a single one in the middle of the school. Just something you may want to try out - it's fun experimenting with different combinations and keeps them thinking about it as well.

When my big lad had it years ago, the vet just gave me a wash to use and my yard owner knew of an antifungal spray to use on him, perhaps you could ask your yard owner/manager or a chemist what would be safe to put on it to help stop the itch??

hock spavin? arthitis? yes i have been told by a VET << i can jump so please dont argue i have a train profesnance saying i can jump
and like a wash that you put in hot water and then scrub the scabs
