Tests came back!!!

WHAT?? omg, where?? *looks around in a panicked way*

Oh, you mean THIS lot? Pah, I wouldn't trust em as far as I could throw em. Tea/coffee/whisky is in the corner (behind the birthing pool) I'm off to bed, keep the noise down won't you?

LOL The birthing pool still has it's uses even though Jack has been born... I seem to remember the last 'long thread' it was used for was 'Pastie bashing' haha

Not read all the replies (I tried too but I might have missed some!)

I don't normally reply to BSJA123 things but I do feel a bit sorry for her at times.

As a few other people have said they haven't caught ringworm (despite everyone saying ringworm is highly contagious) in my personal experience its not!

I live on a dairy farm and every year some calves get it but that majority dont-not even the one that live in the same pen!

A calf at my work (vet school) had ringworm-not a single other animal got it  I touched the calf with bare hands and didnt wash them! and I touched my horses!...oh and none of them got ringworm!

My OH had ringworm, it didnt spread anywhere except his hand and noone else caught it, I touched his hands regularly and never washed mine as did plenty of others.

I doubt if you take your horse in the school the ringworm is going to infect all the other horses. Take your vets advice and ignore everyone else on here (including me). At least you ask for advice, and then could choose to take it or not, some people just do what they want anyway!

Hope it all clears up soon!

Being at vet school, should you not be a little more hygenic when dealing with animals?

I totally agree Ringworm is not the plague or anything, but I think what most have been trying to say is why not do everything in your power to STOP it spreading, not that it will definatley sppread, just that it could and therefore to be very careful...

The OP is 14, and yes, she was a little obnoxious when she first started posting, but she seems to be trying her best to learn and people maybe need to get off her back. Other teenagers also post drivel at times, they don't seem to be treated nearly so cruelly! I am not talking about those who are giving constructive criticism, rather those who seem to be on a bit of a witch hunt :(

No, the part of the vet school i work at is a teaching bit. All animals in there have been brought in because there is something wrong with them and instead of them being shot at the farm the vet school buys them and uses them to teach the students then puts them down and practice surgery etc on them.

If an animal come in to be treated then it is in a different area and ALL cases are in isolation and nothing that is in one isolation area ever goes to another isolation area.

Yes preventing it is one thing but saying that the horse need to be kept on complete box rest and not allowed out which some have suggested is taking it a little to far! I was just trying to make the point that in my experience it doesnt spread as easily as everyone is making out.

Oh ok, Sorry... Just fro myour orgional post it sounded like you were stroking infected cow, then just patting others etc... I did think it was a bit strange :)

Sorry

I've been trying to keep my gob shut but this thread is really winding me up... It's RINGWORM... It's not the plague, or even strangles, a small tube of canestan, daktacort or any other antifungal will clear it up in two or 3 days... yeah before effective treatment it was a problem but I don't see a load of women being banished from a yard every time they get thrush and it's basically the same bug.

I don't normally post, more of a lurker really but I just wanted to say thank you for this comment!!! I'm having just the worst day at work and this made me laugh so much I nearly wet myself :D

It's brought to mind all sorts of visions :D

Leave this poor girl alone, everytime she posts a thread she gets bullied. If you have a problem with her DONT read her posts, simple.
She's a child, we have all been there and if she was my daughter iv be disgusted with some off you, should be ashamed off yourselfs. I'm surprised she hasn't had a nervous breakdown because off some off you nasty c*ws on here. No need for it. How would you like your daughter to be treated the way the op gets treated???? You wouldn't so pack it in

You do get a bashing on here don't you.

Hope your pony feels better soon and that those who find you anoying mange to find the "ignore button" and leave you be.

BSJA...123, You have been given so much conflicting advice on here as to your horse and ringworm. If you need to ask questions about ringworm or weather its ok to jump your pony a certian hight then speaking to your vet is what you need to do!

Everyone has different experences and can tell you 100 different ways to treat your pony but its your vet who knows you, your pony and your circumstances so speak to them about it. You can call them and speak to them over the phone so you dont get another vets bill, their advice is free.

Make a list of questions you want to ask them so you can cover everything and hav a pen and paper ready so you can wright the answers down so you dont forget.

I'll start the list for you (add/change the questions as need be),
My horse is scratching alot, is there anything else i should be doing for her scratching?
Is it ok to loose school/lunge my horse while she has ringworm?
Is there any other way i can exercise her if i cant ride her?
Should she be in total isolation? if not,
Should she be kept in her stable when not being exercised?
What percausions should i take when handling her so i dont catch it or pass it to others?

Your vet will be able to answer these questions and best advise you, taking in to account any other issues with your pony, like spavins.

Good luck with it. If you want to know anything else about manageing spavins and ringworm, calling your vet is the best thing to do.

BSJA 123, you should poll with all these differant anwers! You may then get some where near your first question- lol.

Just being nosey, but has other horse on the yard got ringworm, other than the first one and then ebbs. And are the first ones owners paying for your vet fee's? (as sugguested on by some)

Its a close call which is worse, bulk buying Canesten or Benzyl benzoate for sweetitch!! Especially in a very small town where all the chemist staff know you.

I think I can beat this, but will be lowering the tone of the thread considerably. Don't read on if easily offended:

Asking your chemist for the biggest tube of KY Jelly they have (for ultrasounding a tendon injury)

OP, glad you know what it is now :)
