Tetanus vaccination reaction - anyone had one?

Yearling filly had her second jab 4 weeks ago. Not SURE when the reaction started as she was out in a biggish group who I check twice daily but don't actually get my hands on! She just hasn't seemed 'happy' for the past week and as the vet was coming, got her in. Found the problem as soon as we handled her - a big, hard swelling at the site of the jab - about 6" in diameter! We're hot fomenting 4-5 times a day which she seems to be enjoying - but so far (2 days) no change to the size or the 'feel' of the swelling. Anyone else had this?? (It's NOT a dirty needle problem - my vet is positively religious about hygiene!!)

My filly foal had a tetnus jab the day she was born in her bottom......im sorry to say that she turned 5 last night and still has that lump. Doesnt cause her any problems though.

My not so young gelding always has a reaction to these vaccinations. Hot swellings about 6" round. I think he is uncomfortable when it happens but not seriously. The lump goes down after a few days. Tell your vet next time and he will chose a site where it won't be so troublesome if he reacts again.

I haven't had hard lumps,on my horse althought i get them when I have a tetanus jab, but my horse gets very stiff, can't back up and will not put his head down on occasion, its not all batches just some, I think its more a reaction to the adjuvant that they add to try and improve the immune response.

My oldest pony was very very sick after he had his first combined flu/tetanus vaccination. He ended up not eating or drinking on the 4th day with a raging tempature. He just had his 3rd injection on Thursday and has a canny lump on the side of his neck and is not happy at all about it being touched. Unfortunately my friend held him for me this time as I was stuck at work and she can't remember where the vet put her needle so it might be a fly bite.
