A horse on my yard has cut it's leg in the field. Owner says it's tetanus is up to date as horses only need THREE tetanus jabs in their lifetime, same as humans, therefore horse is covered. This is what the vet told her apparently! I get mine done every 2 years as does (I assumed) everyone!

I've heard this too, and I think it's right. However I'd rather cover all bases just in case so mine is done every two years anyway. According to a nurse friend I'm wasting my money! Better safe than sorry though!

I've also heard this and apparently there has never been a known case of tetanus in a horse which has had an anti tetanus at some point.

If a horse sustained an obvious injury I would definitely give an anti tetanus booster though if it wasn't up to date.

Just to add that if the horse is insured she may well find that it is void as most policies require vaccinations to be kept up to date.

and also the tet vacc doesnt tend to cause any adverse reactions and so for me it is a no brainer to err on the safe side, esp as I have it done as part of horsey MOT with teeth and tapeworm blood test all in one visit so no extra call out.
