How long does a tetnus injection cover you for in humans?
Just wondering as my daughter was bitten today by a dog and the owner asked if she was up to date on her jabs! ask me when either of my horses are due and i could tell you instantly but i have no idea with my own child! (i'm ashamed to say)
I will call the Dr tomorrow and check but in the meantime....

I have a feeling they don't offer Tetanus now unless you cut yourself etc? Not 100% sure tho!

My daughter was done preschool, shes now 10 and not been offered one since

If your daughter has been bitten and the bite has broken the skin she needs to see a doctor. The bacteria in a bite is far more of a worry than tetenus.
If daughter is under the age of 10 she is likely covered, but book that doctors and get it checked.
Hope your daughter is feeling better soon...being bitten is never nice

Just found this on net :- Tetanus is rare after a dog bite but all guidelines recommend prophylaxis with immunoglobulin and toxoid for patients with a history of two or fewer immunisations.

I have been bitten so many times, comes with the job, never even thought about going to drs?

Hope your little girl is not too bruised xx

mm, she has just turned 11. I know she was given tetnus as a baby so it may have run out then.
The dogs owner cleaned the bite straight away and put savlon and a plaster on it (she was playing at a friends house) Its not a bad injury, in fact its tiny- like a little puncture wound. I will certainly call into the surgery tomorrow. The dog in question didnt go for her but for another dog and she tried to help the little dog being attacked :-@ I would have had heart failure had i seen it!

Am a veterinary nurse ( small animal) you never see me commenting on the horsey veterinary threads cos it's all alien to me haha.

Usually bitten by cats and hamsters lol, but had a few dog bites in my time, they really bruise!, bet she's feeling very sore poor mite! xx

Trouble is with puncture wounds is they heal over almost instantly so short of sticking something in the whole and flushing it through cleaning rarely helps, hope the little dog didn't have typical little dog teeth all rotten and full of germs... if it's going to get infected will be after a couple days, sure she will be fine! xx
