Texting when selling a horse?

I am currently selling a horse, and wonder why people feel the need to text to enquire about him, rather than ringing me? I would much rather speak to someone on the phone for 5 minutes, than answer a ton of questions via text. It may just be me, but I am more likely to make time for someone who calls up than who texts me. I have decided now to say 'please call for further enquires' rather than answer a billion and one texts. So why do people text rather than call? Can't just be me who is annoyed by this?

Unless its something important missing from advert eg height then think its highly rude really. I'd assume its either daydreaming kids or people too stingy to pay for the call. Can't imagine anyone having a good reason to do so.

I might send an introductory text as I'm usually in the office during 'sociable' hours just to check whether the horse is still for sale and to confirm that's ok to call in the evening or at the weekend.

I can, when looking I made absolutely tons of calls and I had unlimited texts but limited minutes, most calls proved the horse not to be suitable so after running up bills for 3 months on the trot I started texting first.

I agree not ideal BUT there are people who are really looking that just text to start with

I'd certainly send a text to enquire if the horse was still for sale and maybe ask something that might not be clear in the ad which might discount my interest in the horse right away.

I agree to a point but ive been caught on the phone for hours talking to someone about the horse they are selling, knowing its not suitable but not wanting to be rude. People love to talk about their horses and in my experience a text for some more info and if it sounds suitable a meeting set up is easier. :)

Ditto..by an owner desperate to sell...

If I see an ad I like and it's evening time, I might text to enquire whether it's convenient to call and also to check it is still for sale.

But I wouldn't text to ask questions - that might be an age thing though.

i usually text first to find out of horse is still available and if i get a positive reply i'll then phone to talk properly. And as someone who used to suffer panic attacks and couldn't answer a phone and only phone people i knew, i can fully understand why some people might prefer to text!! even now i have to really prepare myself to phone up about an advert even when i've already had a reply to my initial text.

I have texted before.

Once to ask a question as the price wasn't listed on the advert, I was in a bit of a rush so didn't want to get stuck on the phone for ages.

Second was to ask would be ok to give her a call later on in the evening (9ish) as I was stuck at work but really wanted to chat more about the Horse.

Texts don't bother me, but I would not be happy to arrange a viewing without speaking to them on the phone. I think you get a much better idea of the person when you are on the phone.

slightly ranty reply so please bare with me!!!:o
Same boat and it drives me Bloooooooooooooomin mad!...pls note massive understatement tho i cannot type an effective enough word:D...from sellers point of view..ie MINE ;-) could buyers not realise that they do not have to answer 3.9 billion fruitless texts to sell..none of which call back when you do reply or are complete fruit loops...by the time you reply to said 3.9 billion, you need to sell your £4k horse to simply pay for the bill or the ban you get for abuse of unlimited texts!!!I've had texts asking me to call them..I decline every time. I would love if they only text as one poster above eg to say pls may I call you at a convenient time as my hours are unsociable ...then absolutley fine!

yes I apprecaite you have a million horses to try before you find ms/mr perfect...but I take hours painstakingly writing & re writing the best & most accurate ad I can only for you not to read it and then ask me questions by text that are clearly there...sorry if i sound slightly agressive...I am! Knookered my already knookered back today by popping 2 ribs & damaging a vertebrae & pinching a few nerves for good measure...and have been lying down trying to keep still so am VERY grumpy...luckily I didn't renew my ad for my horse last night as I think I would come across as mildly psychotic if any poor sole did phone...God forbid text!!!...I think I would need a muzzle & a rabid dog loop and any text that is sent will pretty much be in danger of being turned into cascades of skittles (the sweets not actual skittles..that would just be weird!)

So to sumarize, just incase anyone scared/shakey by reading this far...no...not a lover of text responses!:D

I personally think replying to an ad via text is rude and I would assume that the sender was too tight to make a phone call. Texts are also rather time consuming, why should I spend five muinuets of my time texting what would take me five seconds to say.

I either ignor texts or reply with 'call if you're interested'. If I was to sell another horse I would probably out 'NOI TEXTS' on the ad!

I would text first then ring if i was interested in going to view the horse, previous anxiety and panic disorder makes me go like jelly on the phone unless it's family/good friends! I'm much better face to face :p

Never bought a horse therefore never done it myself. However, I knew a boy at school who had a really really bad stammer and lisp so for someone like that I think probably texting or emailing would be much easier, especially if they explained the speech impedement situation.

I think its 2012 and different people prefer different lines of communication and if your not happy to receive texts then putting on your advert "texts will not be replied to" or something similar usually lets people know. Ultimately in the current market if you want to sell then it wont bother you if its via text, call or email!!

I always ring when responding to an ad, but thats mainly because for me its quicker lol :D

My OH on the otherhand, always texts to an advert initially as he doesn't like phoning for some reason

I don't mind receiving txts and, as it is difficult to make/take phone calls during the day, it seems the easiest way to contact people for me.

As far as txting questions to a seller, I am of the opinion that they are less intrusive than a phone call and would perhaps think that the seller would appreciate less 'bother'. If you didn't want people to txt questions, it might be a good idea to say so on the ad, as others might also think it was less intrusive?

I think one text checking its still for sale and when to call is fair enough. Some people have one deal breaker question too which again I think in this day a text is fine what bugs me is when they want you to text back and forth a million times rather than ring!

To be honest..I don't care if they send a carrier pigeon if it sells what I want to sell.. :)

Heeheehee so bloody true. Im shocked that people complain when selling horses has become quite hard in todays market. As has been said its less intrusive and actually people work in the daytime and cant always chat on the phone and come evening want to relax not to talk to an utter stranger. As much as some buyer can be barking, ive phoned many an owner who after 2mins ive decided is cranky, rude or generally not someone id buy from; i also feel this way when people arent cooperative in whatever line of communication i choose to use, im the buyer who will line your pockets and if you are rude about me texting il take my money and loving forever home elsewhere!!
Rant over!!

I hate phoning. I have a real phobia about it.

I think it goes back to a time when I was younger, phoned a boyfriend and decided to ..ahem.. talk dirty....only to later realise it was his brother and he had me on loudspeaker to his friends!! :o

So I always text first or email. And then I'll phone but if the seller seems happy to text I'll carry on texting.

ETA - I don't talk dirty to sellers BTW!! I just don't like talking to anyone I don't know on the phone!!

i must say, when i was thinking of selling mine and had them up for sale i didn't at first mind receiving the texts BUT after the 3rd day of constant texts of people offering me stupid prices for them or kids writing texts that i couldn't understand it really started to pee me off, the nail on the coffin was when i had a text at 11.45pm asking if my youngster was still for sale!!! so would rather a phone call :-)
