I've just joined this forum today.

Though I don't reguarly ride, I do share a passion for horses. My main interest is in Police Horses.

I come from Milton Keynes, which is the base for the Thames Valley Police Mounted Section. I've seen loads of their horses on the streets but now it's come to the point where I might need more information on them so I can spot them easier.

The ones that I know are (colour is in brackets) ARION (black), TROY (bay) and OTTO (dark bay). That information was sourced from local news articles on the web.

So can anyone disclose any information on the others. Names and their colour are the only facts I really need, but if anyone has got any other info of them such as height, age, breed or even their rider (including for those listed above) then that is welcome too.

This topic is only for those within the TVP area so that's MK, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Those outside can comment, it's just the counties above would be best to provide the info.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome. Just what is your need for this information and could you not arrange a visit to the stables to find out?

Interesting questions. If you asked for similar facts about the dog unit ie dogs and handlers, you would be told where to go!!! These are working police officers and no one should really be disclosing their identities to you.

I really dont like this thread. If you are *generally* interested in police horses, then Imber Court do the Mets mounted policing team and they also do guided tours

Very dodgy by the sounds of things...why on earth would you want info on the horses and their riders........this kind of info wont ever be released to anyone...duh Data Protection Act...heard of that??

Who are you anyway?

Ummmm!!! Odd to say the least! Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this!!!

Apologies, if it is an innocent question, but as others said, this information will be covered by Data Protection...

Isn't there a program on Animal Planet called Mounted Branch, if you're really that interested in police horse why not watch that. Eevn though it's a different branch.
Very odd.

as always, i'm last to arrive... but hey, i'm enormous and pregnant... and i couldn't bend down to the plug socket to turn laptop on...

what is all this about? hmmm? what a bizarre post. to be honest, this info probably isn't covered by data protection or anything, as police nowadays are being made to wear their names on their shoulders so they are more easily identifiable than just their numbers... and it's not like the horses are undercover like some policecars...

what a strange request... perhaps 'policehorse-spotting' is the new train spotting?

OP - do you wear a mac?

Sorry I am just a bit iffy about this because of the situation here - the homes of two family members of a serving police officer were attacked in Northern Ireland last night (yes, in 2009), there is no way I would ever reveal the identity of any police officers I know, online or anywhere else.

Which is why I am requesting this topic to be closed now!

I'm sorry. I didn't stop to think about the negatives.

So can everyone stop posting and someone close this topic down!

totally understand... which is why i think it's ridiculous that police here are made to wear their FULL names on their shoulder. my hubby is a policeman. he has his full name on his arm... all it takes is for someone to look him up in the phone book/google him etc to find out where he lives. i do think policeman should be held accountable for their actions and should be transparent... but surely they should also get some protection? i genuinely feel less safe married to a policeman than i would an accountant!

Perhaps this is related to the fact that TVP are advertising for a groom at the moment, so the OP wants to be more informed about the workings of the mounted section than other applicants?

However since I used to work for TVP I can assure you, as others have, that you only have to ask them if you want info like this

Good employer too BTW

It would be a fab job, great salary (for a grooms job) and all the benefits of working for TVP (good pension scheme, lots of annual leave etc

**ponders would it be worth a phone call**

should really get on and my BHS me thinks

Certainly when I worked for them (which was many years ago now...) they were always swamped with applicants for their grooms jobs, mainly for the reasons I mentioned. So I should think when they shortlist they will be quite fussy about ensuring that people do have the qualifications or equivalent relevant experience? (cant remember if the BHS stuff was essential or desirable on the person spec)

But then again, if you dont apply you will never know
