Once again this has been an absolute godsend to fill my dieting pony up. It's great that feed companies are realising we need products like this :-)

So true. I buy oat chaff from e-feed in Bicester at less than £7 for a 22 kg bag. Nothing in it other than oat straw with no molasses, alfalfa or flavourings adding extra sugar. I leave a small trug topped up in the stable and if DP is hungry he tucks in, if not he leaves it alone.

Does the oat straw chaff taste different to oat straw (not that I'm suggesting any of you have tried it!)? My mare is fat and on a diet and I managed to source some oat straw, which is very seldom seen where I am. However the little madam wouldn't touch it! Just wondered if she might eat the chaff?

In the winter I used Honeychop plain oat straw chaff, this time I've used Top Chop Zero which does have a coating on it and apple & mint. He's really not fussed with either TBH but forces it down if he's truly hungry.

It's cheap though and I can just keep topping bucket up xx

no it is just chopped straw although it is dust extacted clean and smells nicer I use Ossichaff cool hoof which has a little bit of oil and garlic in it only enough to stabilise it and increase palatability it is still fine to feed by the trug full. I dont like garlic in feeds but it doesnt really smell very strong so I doubt there is much in it

Exactly what happened to me. Our horses have oat straw mixed with their hay- they will pick at it but they are never keen to eat it. It is exactly the same as chopped, plain, oat straw chaff (just long) - the large hay and straw dealer I get it from supplies one of the big bagged chaff companies.

Where I work we sell oat straw chaff which is basically chopped straw and bits up to a few inches long but typically smaller.

We also sell TopSpec Zero which is oat straw chaff with added mint, its a lot shorter and softer so may be an option for those shunning the normal stuff, I have had a bin full for well over a month and even with three ponies havent made much of a dent in the quantity so its pretty good value for money.

Just given 3 of mine a little bit of top chop zero, the old mare has scoffed it down as as far as shes concerned anything in a feed bucket is fair game and the two younger ones have picked at it slightly. Am hoping to leave a feed bowl full in thier stables all the time to pick at as all 5 of mine are fattyfatsters so hoping it means can reduce thier hay a bit :)
