A very strange story really, but my main point is that the CCTV system I bought has been a godsend. Not only can I keep an eye on my mares that have foaled or are due to foal, but I can watch my field and yard from any PC!

I live in the back of beyond and hardly see anyone from day to day, just one neighbour across the field. Anyway my CCTV setup alerts me via a buzzer, by swtiching the TV or by page if anyone walks into the field.

Nearly pooped myself when the alarm went off one night and sure enough there was a person going into my field! Everything records so I made sure I zoomed up to this person....................who I expected to be a man, even worse it was a female that I know! I really wanted to go and confront her, but will leave it to the hands of the Police as why would she be in my field late at night?

Anyway, the moral of the story? My cheap little Micromark camera alerted me (was around £15 when I bought it). I admit that it was the more expensive system that recorded it all etc, but just goes to show that every little helps.

Mine all runs from electric with a backup, but there are systems whereby the camera's can be powered by battery.

Chuffed with my little setup, sorry if this was a bit pointless

I think you should probably gone & confronted her as I doubt if the police will be interested if there are no offences disclosed. The only 'offence' from what you are saying will be civil trespass which police don't deal with. If she continued onto your yard then there may be an offence of found on enclosed premises for an unlawful purpose but that isn't the easiest thing to prove. It's nice to hear of a security system that actually works. Good Luck

Police to be honest have been very helpful as there is shall we say 'a background' to all of this, however I thought it had died down.

Must admit though I can't stress enough just how useful this system is......................and I love watching the little foals playing in the paddocks. Never seem to get any work done though as it's addictive!

So how have you got this set up? Are the cameras IP cameras that you can connect to?

I would be very interested to know the specs, as I was thinking of installing one for foaling and never quite got around to it

Pink Pencil - could you PM me the details of the set up you have? Moving to my own little yard soon and OH is keen to set something similar up...

Pink Pencil, take care with your advertising in your siggy strip. Strictly verboten by forum terms and conditions. Admin have warned temporary suspension for a first offence, membership withdrawn for susbequent offences.

That sounds like a fantastic idea. I would be interested in the spec and cost details if possible too please.

I keep my horses at home and we are fairly isolated in terms of neighbours but are on a main road. Occasionally we get people jumping over the front gate and wondering round the premises.

Doubt the police will do anything since I certainly up here in Scotland, anyone can walk through anyones field - there's no trespassing laws as such. Not sure if this is the same in England though?

Sounds like a useful camera system though, but TBH I think Id wet myself everytime the buzzer went!! And if its movement-sensitive, does it not switch on everytime a horse moves??
