....for twenty years of fun, mud, occasional terror, frequent exasperation but most of all joy.

He was a stubborn, grumpy, old git but he was my stubborn grumpy old git. He was also the cwtchiest most loving boy as long as I wasn't doing something he disapproved of. It feels like he was around my whole adult life, through weddings (well, just the one) job changes, house moves, losing people. He was my constant.

He was every horse’s friend but Monty had a special place in his heart. He’s continued to help other horses as I donated his body to Bristol Uni for future vets to learn. It brings me comfort to know he’s doing some good.

For all the things we did together, this is how I remember him. He loved nothing more than being plastered in mud and hanging out with his grey boy mates.

I was told when he was 12 I’d be lucky to get him to 20 with his melanomas and front feet issues. He made it to 30 and in the end neither of those things got him, it was just age. That makes me very proud of him.

I’ve already had one memory of him pop up on Facebook, of the day he saw me coming so rolled in a muddy puddle just in case I was planning on riding. Then there was the time I brought 3 of them up from the bottom field but couldn’t quite manage the last gate onto the yard. I left Arch there and took the other two as he would be the least likely to leg it. He didn’t, he just rolled in the muddy gateway. You could almost see him laughing at me.

I am so, so sorry. You have some wonderful memories to treasure - especially where mud was involved!

Run free Archie 🐎🌈

I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Archie was a real character. He was lucky to have all those years with you. 30 is an amazing age. Take care of yourself x

So sorry for your loss. What a wonderful character he was and what a lovely life you shared together. Your love for him shines through your posts. He was a very loved and lucky boy 🌈🐎

I'm so sorry. It's clear from everything you've said that you always did your best for him and gave him a fantastic life, but it's still really bloody hard after so long together. You know I'm with you on the muddy grey appreciation front though!

What a character, and clearly well loved. Great photos, and really show what a mud monster he was.
So sorry for your loss.
